lol. right? i mean, as a clock source, AMAZEBUTTS. but i've had so much fun with sending out tempo synced envelopes. plus random, euclidean goodness.... just looooove her.

I’ll vouch for Pam’s, it’s a lot of fun despite having a menu.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
also, still in a pickle (ohhhhhh i forgot to get some PICKLES) with the No Interface Or Mixer situation, but just by checking lights on what's being triggered and what's not and such i am in LOVE with the possibilities of Digitakt -> Shuttle Control. so much excitement.
WOOT.
....... sad, but probably going to swap out my BitBox for other loot when my new case gets here (lol. PLEASE. PLEASE. JUST GET HERE. SOOOOOOOON.). seems a bit redundant using the DT and the BiBo at the same time.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
lol. i..... DID! it's pretty pimp, but don't really love the FX's or the synth that much. rather fill the rather large yarea with other things i need/want, hang on to the BiBo for a hinute and see if i miss her.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
So, I've some stuff on order and hopefullly I'll be able to get started this weekend. This first round is my large bulk purchase and after this it'll probably take me a year/year and a half to fill the rest (I ain't made of cash!) . Learn what I have and slowly build. I'll be using a Mantis case.
Here's what I'll be starting with:
Make Noise SPO
Intellijel Dixie II+
Intellijel uVCF
Make Noise Maths
Ladik ADSR (thanks Behndy!)
Expert Sleepers Disting 4
Mutable Clouds
Intellijel Quad VCA
Intellijel Metropolis
Make Noise Rosie
I know I want a Pressure Points as well because I want that touch, expressive interaction.
Ive dabbled with some soft synths and briefly learned some basics on a Phenol...but I plan to grab Syntorial (I get a discount, yay being a teacher) so I can learn more fundamentals and tighten my ear for this stuff. I don't want this journey to be all about fuckery (re: aimless bleep bloop)--though fuckery is fun--I want to learn and take that process seriously.
Major thanks to Dark Barn for answering so many of my questions...past and future lol

Looks like an awesome rig, although it would probably take me six months to wrap my head around all that at once.
What are you trying to learn about synthesis and what are you trying to do with your modular?
(That second bit is for everybody except for like three posters, TBH)

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Ya it's a big first haul...but, if I don't spend what I have available then the $ slowly disappears (weird how having a wife and child will do that lol). But, happy to take my time with it all.
Trying to learn anything I can...how different components interact with each other, the function (and importance) of utility modules, using VCA's as more than just an audio source (took a note that a VCA can modulate the amount of modulation...wHoaaaaaaa) ...
My biggest influence, and actually the reason why I became interested in learning synthesis, is Alessandro Cortini. I was turned on to his Forse series and it was just over for me lol. Triggered. So, with modular, sequencing will be an important element for me, just because I dig it and I love what AC does with sequencing. I like melody, but at the same time, I want to do some ambient/soundscape/drone stuff as well. Not much for the beats, techno, acid stuff.
By aimless I mean plugging shit into places without any understanding of why or what is going on haha. That'll surely be me in general for the first handful of months..but eventually...I want to understand WHY I am patching a certain way to get those bleepy bloops. Happy accidents will happen, of course, but I want to be conscientious you know?

Yeah Cortini is a beast, esp. The Forse series. His stuff with "just " a Make Noise Shared System is amazing, too.
Anyway, thanks for the response, it's cool to get a feel for why people are doing what they're doing when they build up a system.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
loot. HAUL.
that's.... a way more structured plan than i had. i DID want the aimless bloops and/or beeps, but that's because i was so burnt on everything i was doing musically. it's been stupid amounts of reinvigorating to learn a completely new process that is almost the opposite of how i've always approached musics.
can't wait to hear what you make out of stuff meng!

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
1000% this. I'm being a little cautious about my purchases, but I don't have a big goal of what I want to learn and/or what sounds I want. So far, modular has made me approach music making so differently than anything before that I'm verrrrry much enjoying the somewhat aimless discovery.behndy wrote:i DID want the aimless bloops and/or beeps, but that's because i was so burnt on everything i was doing musically. it's been stupid amounts of reinvigorating to learn a completely new process that is almost the opposite of how i've always approached musics.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Viddy - lol. dood. just get a Pam's. if you don't like it, it'll flip quickly and i think you'll realize after very little play how quick and easy the menu is.
also, at the base level, you're just switching between Tempo and each out. so if you use it JUST as a clock, it takes no time at all to move to Tempo, click, set at 150, click. move to 1, click, set at 3x, click. move to 2, click, set at /9. it's really super, SUPER quick.
...... i'm a fan.

I debated getting some big ballin Oscillator, but, with some advice and reflection, went with two smaller/simpler ones for now.
Those Harvestman oscillators are def in my radar in the future though...
