Haven't tried a Gen Loss, but Meet Maude got me my BoC tones. I imagine the Shallow Water is even better for it.

If your synth allows it, FM using noise as the modulation source could be cool. Mix in vibrato if you can as well.

That's why it's BoC and not BOC :poke:

Step 1: insert loop into Lofi Loop Junky.
Step 2: tweak modulation section

You're like 4/5ths of the way there. Maybe.

Add slow sweeping phasers, lpf & pitch vibrato as needed. Gen Loss is a great option...miss mine. Yes, I'm foolish for parting with it but someone actually got a deal on mine as it was last-acquired & sacrificed quickly to help fund timing belt replacement last year.

Also Tomorrow's Harvest grew on me to become fav BoC lp...but all-time fav BoC is BoC Maxima. Magical mix

Too many people concentrating on vibrato when they should be concentrating on something else to get that sound.

I don't have the article/interview to site (just take my word that I have read every publication with those crazy fuck brothers available) that a big secret is using early /primitive/ samplers. Throw audio in and it just spits out magic...
...incidentally that some sentiment inspired some of the BASTL Instruments. Brands is the resident master of the Micro-Granny (I have one and a couple other people have one and I highly recommend it to pair with your 90's FM synths).

A substantial portion of the early tunes were recorded on 4 track and 8 track cassette. I know they used some early VA synths but there is debate as to whether one famous one was used just to trigger samples (and not used as a sound source on its own).

And to the point of the Gen Loss > I know some material was recorded straight to VHS and played back.

To me the heavy compression and filtering is a key part of that BoC sound (in addition to the slight detuning), which the lo-fi instant junky does really well.

Gen Loss, instant lofi junky, warped vinyl, maybe hexe melusine?

I was able to plug my volca keys into my gen loss and get pretty BoC-ish stuff pretty fast:

Here you go, pal:

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Anyone know if the E&A Tape+ is capable of these kinds of sounds?

i really didn't gel well with the instant lofi junky (hence this thread). got close but dialing in the speed and depth was a pain.

teej was nice enough to sell me a gen loss direct. :!!!:
