I originally posited a question (which was intended as a general question for anyone reading to ask themselves rather than D.o.S. specifically) and the intention behind it ended up being confused because of the way I phrased it.

Yeah I'm gonna agree with JR. I don't consider myself a Christian, but I grew up Episcopalian and it was/is extremely tolerant. It's a bit moronic to lump them all together as hateful when that's simply not to the case. Go talk to my gay priest.

But I do think Christianity gets a whole lot of the vitriol it deserves, especially the evangelical world, which is responsible for a rather disproportionate share of the shitty agenda. They cherry pick stuff from the Bible too, though—you don't see them following all of the ludicrous shit in Leviticus, for example. That said, ALL religions are like that, and most problems with fanaticism boil down precisely to that: interpretation.

Personally I think it's unfortunate that everybody can't just not be dicks to each other, instead needing their own little magical manual for how not to be a dick, seemingly written for a child and sadly often interpreted as one.
