The NF-1's circuit is almost identical to that of the super-expensive SG-1 Slow Gear. You can mod it to SG-1 specs with little effort. That's why the NF-1 isn't really cheap these days, because many people know just that. The price is okay. Really.

If it's "collector's grade", wouldn't you wreck its collector value by modding it to a Slow Gear?

I don't know from "collector's grade" or not, but that NF-1 is being sold by Ace In The Hole, a seller I have dealt with several times. He is top notch and prices things generally pretty fairly. I know no one here is actually inpugning his character, and they are talking about the pedal, but I wanted to make sure people know this seller is one of the better ones out there. $80 bucks for a slow gear platform with original box and manual from 82 seems like a pretty fair deal to me. I'd buy it if I wasn't in selling mode right now.

This is very true, as I've bought a few pedals from him (he tends to blow things out on the weekend aka prime reverb selling time, and generally takes all offers seriously, even my ridiculous lowballs ). Anyway, the NF-1 is hovering around $50-60 these days, and more tend to show up every day, somehow? :joy:
BoatRich wrote:Steve Albini? I kinda want one to see if I can make it do that weird overly gated thing his tone has. I have a feeling that's a studio thing though.
He's tended to use the MXR Noise Gate (newer or older version) both live & in the studio, but it also could be how any gate reacts to the pushing he does with his set-up in the first place (Intersound IVP & Fender Bassman, etc.), but it will probably get you there as long as the signals are meeting each other with just the right tension. Gates are underrated, in general, apart from, well, you know...
