I think the press works pretty hard to corroborate stories by their anonymous sources, because whoever is writing and publishing the story has their reputation on the line. This seems to be one case where the free market gets it right. If a media outlet is wrong too many times, people will stop trusting it and turn to other sources, which means their revenues will drop and they might even fold. I'm not saying they are never wrong, but that their survival (as businesses) depends on being right as often as is humanly possible.

It's unfortunate that the media has been smeared by about 25 years of an unrelenting propaganda campaign from the Right. They have become a convenient foil for Republicans. I equate it to sports fans who feel that the network sportscasters for the game they are watching are biased against the team they are rooting for, especially when their team is losing.

I also think it's embarrassing. The problem with anonymity in the journalism in this cause is that a lot of folks are already having a hard time believing what comes out of the medias mouth. Even before Trump, there was a lot of distrust in the United States. If they could get one solid named source, it would show people that they mean business. I get protecting your name and keeping yourself safe at the same time though. It just looks like a lot of speculation all the time or rumors rather than facts. This intelligence source said this for example. Tell us the agency at least. FBI, CIA, NSA??? Whatever. Or tell us when you have solid info that will bring about a change.

I'm not meaning to say they are doing it wrong, I'm saying this mess will only go away if the key players step up and put their own asses on the line.

You can lay the blame for this directly at the feet of Roger Ailes, actually. It's pretty much how he carved a career for himself in politics over the last 50 years.

so....on the issue of tobacco and cannabis.....
lets start by saying when I was a wee lad, we'd smoke cannabis to explore our selves and lift the vail of reality blah blah blah..mostly though as a "lets go against society thing and bring back the 60's" or somethin.....
...which became, "ah well lets take this too! Nixon said if you take LSD more than 7 times your insane lets do it!" and decades later "why is my withdrawal so bad" duurr, ...once you reach the ultimate its with you forever so why continue the quest when it Is inside of you forever, there is some underlying problem, unless to dose is for Actual mental or physical health reasons, ...while I grew up, went threw motions fought, and still fight addictions ..to something as simple as tobacco or pot..
...and see just a bunch of hippie know it alls now, apart from my generation, saying toke up! ..like its heaven sent all of a sudden to cure absolutely everything from babys to dogs, I feel odd about all of this...I mean yeah it should be in my cupboard legal and no big deal.

It's hard to believe he could get away with it. I think most members of Congress understands the need for 'soft power'.

This is part of Trump's problem, he is too arrogant to bother learning how government actually works, so he is just trying to make it up as he goes along, and making decisions based on his opinions instead of actual facts.
