No but really, my thoughts are that Trump is being lead like a pawn. He isn't the bad guy, he's the scapegoat. I truly believe that. I think what has happened, is the GOP has found someone they can make do all that shit they've wanted to do for years and blame his ass for it instead of all those evil motherfuckers taking the blame. Trump isn't that bright and some of the stuff coming out of the wood works is pretty damn well hidden lies and secrets and they keep burying them deeper and deeper by getting rid of folks who would end them. Trump just does not strike me as the kind of guy who could master mind all that. I think he's a puppet and maybe he knows about half of what really is happening.

Jwar, I though that at first, too. But now it seems to be somewhat more complicated. The fact that Vlad jumped to his defence with, what is apparently the ONLY transcript of the conversation Trump had with Russian officials when he got into hot water for sharing the intel about the ISIS laptop threat and seemingly endangered (what is looking like) an Israeli operation and agent/s, is very telling.
My guess is it started as the Russians jumping on the discontent of the American populous, running a little interference here and there and then the Republican party, realising that this was their golden egg shitting goose, got all wet in the pants and couldnt but help put the oompa loompa in the oval office. The preelection discontent from the party faithful was just a way to weed out the moderates.
Don't be surprised when, if this impeachment process goes ahead and bears flat earther fruit, you actually end up with a party fracture and two brand new conservative parties on your hands.

I think you'll find there are always two faces to every political party and what happens behind closed doors is rarely disseminated to every party member.
This sort of shit has caused 3 leadership spills in this country in the past decade alone.

The source could be Comey. The source could be Trump. Anonymously sourcing info is not done to spin something out of nothing most of the time, regardless of the fun, paranoid fantasies of people who can't fathom why a source would prefer to remain anonymous.

I also think it's embarrassing. The problem with anonymity in the journalism in this cause is that a lot of folks are already having a hard time believing what comes out of the medias mouth. Even before Trump, there was a lot of distrust in the United States. If they could get one solid named source, it would show people that they mean business. I get protecting your name and keeping yourself safe at the same time though. It just looks like a lot of speculation all the time or rumors rather than facts. This intelligence source said this for example. Tell us the agency at least. FBI, CIA, NSA??? Whatever. Or tell us when you have solid info that will bring about a change.

I'm not meaning to say they are doing it wrong, I'm saying this mess will only go away if the key players step up and put their own asses on the line.

Even outside of whatever retaliation you'd be looking at from the administration, the scarier thing would be someone like Alex Jones parading your name and info around in some conspiracy theory for some wacko to latch onto and show up outside your house with a gun.

I think the press works pretty hard to corroborate stories by their anonymous sources, because whoever is writing and publishing the story has their reputation on the line. This seems to be one case where the free market gets it right. If a media outlet is wrong too many times, people will stop trusting it and turn to other sources, which means their revenues will drop and they might even fold. I'm not saying they are never wrong, but that their survival (as businesses) depends on being right as often as is humanly possible.

It's unfortunate that the media has been smeared by about 25 years of an unrelenting propaganda campaign from the Right. They have become a convenient foil for Republicans. I equate it to sports fans who feel that the network sportscasters for the game they are watching are biased against the team they are rooting for, especially when their team is losing.
