Sound Forge, or something else?

Post by tchen »

Is there a good place to get Sound Forge for free? Or would someone recommend another free program just for basic audio importing/editing?

I'm just looking to upload stuff from my 8-track onto my computer, and do some editing... maybe compression, verb, etc.

Hey man, definitely look into Reaper. It's the gold standard of free/supremely cheap DAWs. It will eventually ask you to purchase a license, but as far as I can remember you don't actually have to (It's like$60 USD), a license mostly provides you with a lifetime of free upgrades and support etc. It will however prompt you every time you open it.
I highly suggest you check it out man.

Audacity feels like Sound Forge in a lot of ways to me (keep in mind that I last used Sound Forge in 2001). It's my go to basic audio editor. And it's free.
