It's possible to do it relatively cheap. I'm putting together an interesting (to me) system in 60hp to be a drum-controlled synth; under $1,000 freedom dollars including case and power. And it features MATHS:

Disting came in today, but it's a Mk 1, and is too deep to fit in the case.

Haha I'd literally just put together this as a foundation.

32, Kinks and Maths lol.
This would give me 2 independent voices with the shared functions of Kinks and Maths.

I plan on going DIY with the Doepfer A-100SSB, some pine, veneer and rails. The prices on cases are ridiculous.
Are you just gonna use one drumtrigger or how's that work?

Oh right that Ladik module is a placeholder for a U-036.

Four audio inputs to four trigger outs. I play a four piece kit...rig up piezo drum triggers and then I've got a ton of stuff I can do from a kit.

But homemade cases seem legit if you have any building ability.

^^^YES. Most of the Death Industrial acts I listen to do so much with so little.
Not that I am "Mr. Ideas" but I am surprised how many sounds I get out of my doofy Roland GAIA (I am not advocating people get this synth because it sounds awful...is missing features that are, frankly, inexcusable for a brand like Roland to leave out...but I love it)

I used to watch this dude on youtube who did triggering from his drums, but it was years ago, as in like 8. But it's cool.

I don't have the greatest abilities, but woodworking is fun, and a skiff looks pretty ez.

It's not hard building your own case, just have to make sure you cut the wood right. After that it's pilot holes, put it together.

But hey yeah I want to tie my posts on this page up in a neat bow: drums are membranophones, but usually incorporate idiophones (instruments that make one sound like a triangle, bell, or some cymbals). Idiophones have the same etymological history as 'idiot,' 'idiom,' and 'idiosyncrasy' (or any other word starting with those four letters)...meaning idiocy isn't dictated by stupidity, but by one's isolation. 'Idiotes' is Greek for a 'private person,' which is derived from 'idios' which translates to 'one's own.'

So yeah an idiot is a dumb person, but they're dumb because of an inability to hear other people. 'Idiom' means peculiar to a specific place or people.

Therefore drums are the dumbest instrument, I guess. Or most isolated. Which is why I need to get it to talk to my modular system. Hi/low; smart/dumb; simple/complex; &c.
