Yeah the drone commander is just a perfect combination of intuitive layout, aesthetics, and depth.

Also standard note about how the DC2 has no triangle wave and it's a crime against humanity.

Also as a bit of a disclaimer I owned one for 3 or 4 years. Dunno what that one sold for but they're too rich for my blood now.
Incredible box for 350 or so. Not worth it at 500, etc.

You can't put a price on divinity.
That said I wouldn't pay more than $400, but that's because I don't like scarcity gouging. Scarcity does funny things to our brains, especially with something so unique, so some people are willing to pay that much, therefore some people see an opportunity to charge so much.
I consider myself blessed to have gotten fuzz-bro pricing on one here.

It's pretty much entirely the sound of the filter for me. Other drone boxes do similar things in terms of functionality. But that filter!

Is that Formant Filter the same one thats in the DC? That changes my thoughts on it considerably then.

You have to overdrive it manually to get the same sorts of mellow growly resonance that the standalone DC does in spades -- also because you're running two synched oscillators into the filter it sounds different than just plugging in a standard osc. but you can totally do the same shit. I'll do some clips when I'm back with it if someone reminds me in a month or so.

If you still have it in October, bring it to Philly. Or maybe I'll just pick one up within that time frame. Wonder what morphing oscillators through a Braids or using the Mannequins Mangrove will produce.

Curious - how would you compare the Boardweevil2012 to the OG Drone Commander, with respect to whatever criteria you like.

Re: The headsup sweet shit on ebay thread....
I would compare the DC much more to my old Skychord drone box, actually.
The Boardweevil is a lot less dense, but it's also much more responsive to "playing it", you don't really "play" the DC-2, you kind of get it set up and let it do it's thing. In fact, since the oscs. are synched "playing it" can often times sound like shit, because it's really, really easy to get the second osc. going a lot faster than (I would like) something with "drone" in the name would have you believe.
The filter is fucking amazing, for sure, but it's also very touchy -- it sounds so good at nearly full-pass, but you can lose great tones if you engage/disengage the oscillator pitches and the shape while moving the filter at the same time. Even if you set the knobs the same, you won't get the same sounds -- and in that respect it's very similar to the BW2012

Re: The headsup sweet shit on ebay thread....
I always tended to use the BW2012 as a set up and let it go kind of thing.... I always had OSc1 super slow with the filter mod, Osc3 a bit faster and sync'd to osc1, and Osc2 in audio range, then just play the touch points, cutoff/res and ring mod mix knobs. So in conclusion, really not just set up and let it go.D.o.S. wrote:I would compare the DC much more to my old Skychord drone box, actually.
