Was a legitimately decent adaptation, or rather, there are other Ghost In The Shell movies that aren't anywhere near as good as this one. You have a couple iconic scenes and some neat references that doesn't feel forced or anything. The whole 'Whitewashing' controversy was bullshit as well and misses the point of the story and especially the title.

It's the kind of thing where you should just see it with an open mind and avoid the buzz and you'll enjoy it. At the very least, the visuals are pretty good and it does have plenty of practical props and classic, dingy rooms dripping with cables and pedestrians looking like they came straight out of a Shadowrun RPG book. Love that shit.

Pretty obvious spoiler:

I did go into it pretty ambivalent, especially after some of my earlier posts. I was pleasantly surprised, I did like GiTS more than Ex Machina - which was really hamfisted with it's message about Artificial Intelligence and cybernetic research. Hopefully after this and the new Bladerunner movie, we go into a new revival of technological future Sci-Fi films and get a Cyberpunk 2.0.

Again, it's still worth the current 71% Rotten Tomatoes score. It isn't the most amazing movie in the world, but for what it is, i'm whole heatedly appreciative that we didn't have another Aeon Flux on our hands.

Nice, that was more or less what I hoped for. And a new age of Cyberpunk would be pretty neat, especially as a counterpoint to the sleekness and minimalism of a lot of modern sci-fi.

"Not Aeon Flux" is about the best review I could've read. Good to know it's not complete garbage.

I ranted to a colleague about how Scar Jo, while a great actor, is just not the Major's body type. Nothing to get too hung up about.

For a Western made Anime adaptation, it's good (whatever low standard it is). More than anything else, I appreciate the detail that went into the world and costuming. Really, it is a ramped up version of Robocop with an existential crisis subplot. Really though, you just can't have a hard Sci-Fi like what GiTS is without alienating atleast 90% of your audience and people forget how much blatant exposition of Politics and Ethics there is in every other iteration. It is pretty dry.

I get the criticism, but a lot of it is just comparing it to other things when it needs to be taken as it's own thing. Besides, I always thought Motoko's character was pretty weak in SAC especially compared to the rest of the franchise.

This review goes on about what I tried to articulate

I'm done. I'm just waiting to see John Wick 2 when it gets released - then i'll just gush over that instead.

I was talking today about how I wanted Chad Stahelski to direct GitS, I think he would've done good.

Really looking forward to GitS, but I don't really do cinemas (because fuck people) so I'll have to wait for a quality rip.

In other news, Attack On Titan season 2 is on, just watched ep1. Potato Girl is still awesome.
