You could make your own on the laser right? You could cut out keyed panels, slot them together and put a few screws in it like this. This thing isn't too pretty but it's sturdy as fuck, and I be you could do a way better job making it look good. I made it a few years back with a laser the lab had.

Just a quick update.

I found a local wood worker who has access to just about anything and everything I could possibly want. :)

The enclosures are a bit more expensive. A 4x5 box would run around 20 bucks, but you're talking hand made stuff here. So it's totally worth it IMO.

He's making me a test box this weekend and I will be rehousing something from my own board to showcase it! So get ready all. It's coming!!!

OHHHH!!! He also had some killer ideas for modular panels. :)

Maybe I should put my woodworker/cabinetmaker skills to work and start making pedals in wooden enclosures.

It'd probably do the opposite, actually.
Unless you were really diligent with shielding it (such as completely painting the inside with conductive paint or covering it with copper/aluminum foil), you could get grounding issues or issues with RF noise.

Using the conductive paint wouldn't be that hard of a process

I mean, several people do it right now, so I can't imagine it'd be that difficult. :)

Considering how often I see the same carved soapwood boxes in giftshops around the world, I assume that there's gotta be somewhere like...err..whats that chinese place? Aladdin.com or whatever where you get all the shit bulk cheap? Alibaba? Whatever. You know what I mean.

Alibaba.com.

The problem is would wood hold up to someone's fat foot stepping on the pedal switch all teh time? Maybe it would make more sense to offer a wooden enclosure around a standard metal pedalbox? Again, vendors on places like Alibaba would be willing to do custom sizes if you order enough units.

As pretty as it is, I'm pretty sure i'd break a wooden box in the first week of owning it.

Well the guy who is going to try and make them (I say try because he's a woodworker but hasn't done these before) is going to use Oak. Oak ought to be sturdy enough to withstand some stomping. I really don't think it will be an issue if it's a solid piece. If it's broken up like particleboard then yes, it's an issue.

It will be put to the test though!!! For sure!

Oh and I may seal them with a special poly type material that hardens. It will add extra durability to the pedal.

Question though. Recessed knobs???

You know... as someone that worked as a production woodworker for over 7 years... I ask... why not build a wooden box around a standard metal pedal enclosure? you'd get your look and you'd get something indestructible :thumb:
