When you're done with Lain, check out Ergo Proxy.

And then Texhnolyze, for the ultimate nihilistic "fuck this shit" experience. Oh, the joy. :!!!:

Then the entirety of The Bubblegum Crisis universe, obviously.

Marble Scramble is also pretty decent

I mean, it's context to one's life. I put GitS (And Serial Experiments lain, while we are at it) in such a high pedestal because they literally changed my life. There's a before and after point in who I was and my goals that is divided by me marathoning those two works side by side. I went on and did a post-grad in computer crime and terrorism because of it. And I'm not the only one. A lot of people putting GitS on a pedestal were those who were most malleable during the Adult Swim run of Stand Alone Complex, a time where the themes and setting of the show were starting to become more real, that resonates with people.

Granted I agree, it's not the best series of movies/TV series. But it had a knack of coming in at the right time.

Lain straight up fucked me up, but that's another discussion though. Never watch that series in one night, sleep deprived and with nothing but a tiny laptop screen to illuminate you.
I didn't mean to say it wasn't revolutionary, it was and still is and it still has a better understanding of Transhumanism than Ex Machina did. People love to criticize, nit pick and call Evangelion overrated but I hadn't that much of a connection to a show especially when seeing it when I was 10 or 11 years old. Growing up with that era of Anime and especially when they were being dubbed and brought to the West, I have a different sentiment everything from that time. :idk:

I don't know, maybe because people on the Internet typically become more cynical and have to need to tear everything down so when they find something that doesn't suck they latch on it like a barnacle. But really, while playing my wanker card; if you're carrying on like an porkchop on a message board about a film adaptation then you're probably too young or you don't leave the house often enough. Obviously, i'm not directing that at anyone here and want nothing but posivibes.

By the way, highly recommend picking up the Serial Experiments: Lain Boxset.

Comes with the complete series with both DVDs and Blurays of the show.

Eivind August wrote:So, what do you guys think of the upcoming Ghost in the Shell live action movie? Had sort of forgotten about it, but saw that there's a new trailer thingy. Not too stoked on the choice of director and writer, but both probably have potential, and the source material is great, so... it might turn out ok?
My avatar's a bit of a giveaway, but I'm looking forward to it. Even if it ends up being disappointing, a lousy movie adaptation won't ruin a great book or manga for me. Oshii seems ok with the casting, so I'm trying to keep an open mind. However, I'm dreading the inevitable, "Hey, some scenes directly rip off The Matrix" post-movie comments.

I haven't seen it yet, but perhaps Garm Wars: The Last Druid may be a visual style indicator?

Considering how much the Matrix blatantly ripped off GiTS, there better be.

Yas, these are my jams, homes! :!!!:

And fuck yeah, Bubblegum Crisis! Actually, what other shows would you guys recommend in a similar vein to these? I've been out of the game for a while.

Re: GitS - I actually kinda like the choice of Scarlett Johansson. I get the whitewashing critisisms, but honestly, I don't think it's too problematic to remake a movie set in a different place with actors of a different ethnicity. Especially if the alternative would be Hollywood trying to pull of some perceived "Asian mysticism" stuff. It's the fact that it's Snow White and the Huntsman-guy who is directing and Street Kings-guy who is writing that is bothering me. However, neither of them have really done much other than those two movies, so they could be way more talented than I imagine.

Seen Armitage (the mini series version, but I think it's the same as the film?) and Metropolis, never got into Appleseed. Will check out the others, though. Thanks!

Psycho Pass was pretty good. Well, the first season, anyway. Loved that. The second, not so much, though it was still entertaining. The film was ok.

Second season of Psycho Pass sucked a bag of dicks. Never been so disappointed in a second season of something.

I found out about Boa from Lain which I'll be forever thankful for, that band rules.

How great is it? I'm like 7 episodes in and I still haven't been hit with it yet. Like I can sort of see maybe where the story is going but I can't say that a lot has happened.
