I know BM purists don't always consider them as such. They definitely evolved from it, and into something badass as fuck, whatever you want to call it.

:idk: I'm not so I agree, I like things that I like. I mean you could say blackened deathmetal if you had to but that doesn't really work because of the lack of cheese and overplaying that too much [most?[ deathmetal has, and bands like this to me all have a bit of Archgoat in them :idk:

I wasn't trying to criticize. I'm a black metal neophyte. It just seemed like a marked contrast to the Darkthrone, Burzum, Xasthur, Leviathan, I've been listening to. Out of context, I would've guessed it was death metal.

If you go through their back catalog, you'll hear black metal in the vein you are more familiar with. DSO was good during that period, but it wasn't until their evolution that they became a mainstay. That's really what cements them in Black Metal. That and the singer is all but confirmed to be the guy from Clandestine Blaze.

But I wanted them to remain anonymous!!!! :( Doesn't the guy from DSO sing/speak in French a bunch too? The guy from Clandestine Blaze is Finnish :?: (not that he couldn't learn French....)

Edit: The sure sound alike, I have to admit.

I listened to some of that Clandestine Blaze.... I haven't really heard of it until now. I'm convinced.

After a listen, it's pretty hard not to hear it. Same with Ghost and whatever the name of his pop band is. He sings essentially the same way. But, I'm with you on the anonymous thing. I do enjoy genuine aesthetics / mythos. With the knowledge that it's him, I felt it did add some legitimacy to it all.

New Cultes Des Ghouls is coming soon. Very excited for this one, since Henbane is still one of my all-time favorites within the genre.

I the few songs I have heard that lean into a bit or a almost funeral doom/DSBM like vibe :idk:

I've got it in my "listen to this" album queue. Will got there sooner or later.

Trying to work out if I really like the new Alcest or am pretty ambivalent about it. :idk:

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.
