Well that sounded rather fabulous :) Can I ask an odd question (well I'm going to anyway). Are those sounds controlled by the guitar? And if so, how? My limited understanding of synths is that control voltage is used to generate the sounds, but can you plug a guitar into one of these devices (like an effects pedal) and get it to modulate / weird out the guitar sound? I thought CV and audio was something different (happy to be wrong here, my technical knowledge is weak).
There are a couple ways to integrate a guitar into a euro system. I use an Xaoc Sewastopol and/or a Mutable/Music Thing Ears. Both are input devices and envelope followers, i.e., an input device brings the audio signal of the guitar into the modular and an envelope follower takes a high-frequency signal (guitar) and provides an output which is the envelope of the original signal.

So, you can use an input device to bring the guitar signal into the modular environment, which you could then effect or manipulate however you like or you can use the envelope follower to use your guitar playing dynamics to control parts of the modular

Edit: CV and audio are different, but similar signals in a few ways. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (because I definitely could be) but audio is generally 10Vpp AC signals and higher frequency, while CV is generally 5Vpp DC signals and lower voltage. However, a lot of the time, audio can be used as CV.
Thanks for explaining it to me, that diagram just made me realise exactly what an envelope follower actually is! Yeah I know, kind of slow on the uptake here... that device looks awesome, I think I'll have to go the DIY route for these things though, they're kind of beyond my price range... I'll bet there is a DIY forum for modular somewhere :)

I don't have any modular and/or euro rack because
1) too poor
2) A.D.D.
3) abundant with expensive taste already
4) currently lost in other rabbit holes

Mostly 1...but also lots of 2...and the others further complicate the struggle.
Someday in the future I'd like a basic Buchla signal chain to make percussive sounds :snax:

I'm snickering at the idea that folks in the industrialized west with internet access and money to spend at *all* on musical apparatus of any sort are angry with a dude for telling them to just buy it if they want it and work for it.

#firstworldproblems

As someone on American, not very hot in terms of $$$ poverty line raw numbers, disability, I can swing a high end guitar a year without working for anything past what I put into the system during my limited working years. :)

Very true, very true. On the bright side, regardless of what happens after the election tomorrow we're guaranteed a few years of great new punk music. :omg:

Also want a bunch of Neve pres & Shadow Hills comps
But I'm not particularly interested in 500 series versions of other, legacy rack gear :idk:
Standard rack still looks more BAMF like it means business. Aint nobody put a man on the moon or reanimate a corpse w/euro

Also this thread has me getting all nostalgic for the time when ILF banded together and said "holy fuck dude you're completely and utterly deaf to any and all social decorum" because UG was acting like a complete autist (not a slur, a descriptor) by turning General Gear into his personal photo collection and Music into his "I'm going to post 5,000 times a day in the what are you listening to thread so no one can ever have a conversation ever" emporium.

Halcyon Days.

UglyCasanova wrote:For the record, it wasn't originally intended as a burn. I worked with autistic kids for years and have someone close to me who has the same diagnosis. I was simply stating the conclusion to my observation of someone who has emphatic issues, along with other traits, such as anxiety/depression, collecting/hoarding/limited and intense interests. While the conclusion may or may not be right is irrelevant when the traits are blatantly obvious from reading his posts across the forum. Genuinely believing that anyone can throw money around for gear as long as they pull themselves up by their bootstraps is plain ol' 1930s American dreamy ignorance. The capitalist model is darwinian, and someone/most people are bound to end up on the bottom, no matter how much they put into it. So, while I may have gone overboard playing phychologist or whatever, the fact remains the same; UG is being ignorant and instead or reflecting and reiterating himself he just shrugs his shoulders and carries on. Fine by me, but I don't and won't regret pointing it out, because I find it obnoxious.
