Fair enough...I keep thinking about tap tempo on my delays and such and how easy that is to sync up with a song, but then I realize those are for very short duration...not the entire song, just the length of the decay on the delay...so any slight differences don't show up.

With my 8 step program, when I have it going for a long song that is sync'd to something else, I have the easy ability to retap, and even reset to beginning if it starts getting clock drift...

I wonder what the looper in the Trio+ is like. If its sync'd with the bass and drums, and quantized so that you're just dubbing your stuff over that timed rhythm, maybe that's the cheapest and easiest solution. Even if it means selling my standard Trio.

After some research, the Digitech Trio+ appears to be the answer to all questions in the universe.

I will just put my 720 and my standard Trio up for sale, and order me the Trio+ which solves all problems and appears to work the way it should with its looper sync'd to the drums and bass.

I am starting to believe the problem with the 720 is that the lag time between when you tell it to start recording and when it actually does start recording is inconsistent. Meaning you don't know if it cut off the attack on that first note until you hit it the second time and start looping, and meaning you have no idea when to press the button the second time to get a consistent rhythm from loop to loop. I swear doing the same thing as exactly as I am able, gives me dramatically different results each time.

I was hoping to have 4 of these in my final setup (1 in front and 1 in to each amp at the back) haha! I can just imagine trying to keep them all in check if one is bad enough! Damn I just want to be able to easily fade out 3 loops independently over longer time periods than the loop length!

I think one Boss RC-300 will do that for you with the exception of the loop in front of and behind...though it may have an effects loop in it which may also solve that problem, and would be about the price of 4 of the 720 loopers. Only downside would be the space it requires.

OMG...I am a brainless spazz. I just realized how to get the EHX 720 to work as a quantified looper with my Digitech Trio. DUH!

Place the Trio just upstream from the 720 looper, but after all my effects pedals and then follow this 8-step program.

Step 1: Teach Trio the chord progression, song parts, or even entire song
Step 2: Set 720 to record loop.
Step 3: Start 720 recording...a few seconds before the song is to start.
Step 4: Start Trio playing song you taught it, changing parts as needed, etc.
Step 5: Let entire song play through, then stop the trio.
Step 6: Stop 720 looper from recording a few seconds after song/trio finishes.
Step 7: Turn on effects pedals as desired and overdub rhythm guitar onto the entire song's backing track.
Step 8: Add a second/third/fourth layer of overdub for embellishment, percussive accents, and/or solos as desired.

It requires more time and more consistent playing over the backing track than just playing two or four measures and letting them loop, but that's better practice material anyway, and this way it will be in perfect time with the bass and drums from the trio.

And it saves me from having to purchase a $300 Trio Plus. Also, if I get something I like, I can then just play it back through my amp, while I use my Zoom Q8 to record it...leaving my hands free to adjust levels and things in the recorder, and I will be left with a video that's ready to upload to YouTube.

So is there a smaller looper with the RIGHT ON TIME clickness of the Ditto x2 but can store 10 loops like the 720?

Yeeeaaahhh but it's only got the one footswitch.

Oh interesting... it has "one-shot" too. Is that what I think it is? Like on the DL-4?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Does the RC-30 have one-shot?

I'm gonna check the 20 out then. Thanks!

I was willing to buy a 720 right now but saw this topic. Let's think a while again before clicking the purchase button.

"Amp in a box"?
No, there's no amp in there - tone fairies and feedback goblins live inside this box.

Yeah the thing to keep in mind is that it's just not on the one, like most loopers. I wrote this in another thread:

The 720 is superior to the Ditto X2 in a lot of ways, but the footswitch is a huge difference that it took me awhile to figure out. On the X2 you can loop on the 1 (in a typical 4 count or 8 count or whatever), but with the 720, you actually hit the footswitch on the 4 or 8 or whatever the last count would be of the sequence you are looping (or on 0 if that makes more sense to your brain). It's a little weird to get used to when I've been using the Ditto and X2 for years, you definitely have to think a little more (or I do  ).
Reviving this
Do you guys think changing the switches on the 720 would fix it

In this last month I've gone from having an X2, X4, 720 to a Boomerang III.
The X2 is the best simple looper in my opinion.

The X4 that I had malfunctioned immediately but was cool when it worked (returned it). But the future firmware upgrade should fix it and the functionality they are planning to add to it sounds awesome.

720 made me feel like I couldn't keep time (reading this thread cleared that up). Maybe changing to soft touch switch could help? Unless it is the algorithm.

Boomerang III is a well built powerhouse that was way ahead of it's time but now is starting to show it's age. Still king in my opinion but the fact you have to separate button for overdub and erase interrupts workflow and takes up two of the four bonus slots (yes the sidecar fixes this but it is an expensive addition to an already expensive looper. Not to mention they are very hard to find and even used go close to new price). Having the bonus slot being designated by an LED and dimmer LED of the same color still throws me off.

That's my two cents.
