Okay, if we're discussing our personal gas though, it's something like:
1. Elektron Machinedrum (non-UW)
2. Waldorf Blofeld
3. DOD Meatbox
I probably don't need all/any of those, though, which makes it hard to make such a purchase. Even further down the list:
1. Digitech Digiverb
2. Interesting filter

I'm still gassing for the organelle, even more so now that I'm getting more acquainted with PureData.

Thanks. Interested in sorta a confluence of the two.Adamadamadam wrote:
I'm going to go ahead and assume you're more into it for the Guild than the Laces, but if not, ultra-low Z pups can be made for cheap (like, <$15 cheap) from off the shelf parts.

Not really into active pickups. So, I wouldn't be GASSIN' fo' one of those Guilds with EMGs. The Lace'd probably sound good in that guitar though.

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)
Sorry if that seemed like a dig against Lace's products. I'm working on some (/a) guitar designs that won't really work with a normally wound pickup, so I've been looking into the low-z route. The better frequency response is less important than the potential form-factor, but it's still super-interesting to me.
The really cool thing about the Laces is that the pickup body is the primary coil for the current transformer, and the laminations and windings for the secondary are manufactured into the primary.

Nah, didn't seem that way. The quality of the Guild is, I'm sure, much higher than those Lace pickups. Lace are pretty innovative though.
Yeah, pickup design/theory is definitely interesting.

And IP, i don't disagree. I'm... an "optimistic nihilist" lets say? But i know that for me, being who i am, it's often super exciting and encouraging to see music being made by other people who experience the world in similar ways as me, or also experience whatever we want to call these kinds of disenfranchisement. But i agree. People in here didn't realize that Vastum had queer members, but for me it was one of the big things that initially drew me to them. But also the music is fucking solid as a rock, so cool shit is cool and people catch on to that, regardless of whether they're getting pumped about all the Bataille and Foucault bullshit for the same reasons as me, or even at all.
Personally, as a musician, i aim to make music that can be enjoyed by anyone that i would want to have a pleasant conversation with. But i also know i'm a trans woman playing in metal and punk and other extreme/underground scenes, and there's not many of us, and sometimes it's just awesome to hear music being made by other trans women and get to resonate with them about that shit, and just jive on our own thing. I'm far from a separatist, though. Just, the world taught me to be a little cautious.
...to have demonic buttsex with it.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Now that's a logistical conundrum if ever I've seen one, given the parties involved.

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)
Tl;dr: 'Normal' pickups are generate their signal from several thousand turns of wire, which collectively have a high resistance (high z) and generate enough voltage to provide an instrument level signal. Low z pickups have one-ish coil of wire, which is then boosted through current transformers in order to get the instrument level signal.D.o.S. wrote:I don't get the z pickups
The primary coil for low z pups needs to have an almost negligible resistance, but they only need one wind (of awg 10 or so, to be fair) of wire, so you can be more creative about space constraints. It also avoids the resonant peaks inherent in standard designs (because... science(?)) so the frequency response is broader/more even. The low-resistance primary coil of the Alumitones is formed into the pickup's body. IMO, Lace's innovation is one of manufacturing and not one of science, since these ideas have been around since at least the seventies in patent form.

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)

or

I just sold some old Technics SL1200's I had sitting around for years collecting dust and I'm throwing the princely sum they went for into guitar gear. But now I have no idea which to get. I'm not really excepting input, I just need to get this out there to help myself decide. In all likelihood, I'll get them both eventually but for now, I can't decide which to get this coming week. $1300 for the LP vs. $800-900 for the SG. Argh...

Which has the better neck?
I'd buy the SG, a B7, and enough rum to make up the difference.

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)
60's slim taper on the SG (or whatever the standard slim neck is called), 50's bat on the LP. I have big mitts, but I can hang with either.
