$2000 is too much for a polivoks, unfortunately. I'd probably just try to hunt down a Shruthi with the Polivoks filter board, if it were me.

But god damn, it does look gorgeous, that reissue.

Oh, and i'm in love with my Octatrack. Someone get me a Machinedrum plz & thx.

I've wanted a Machinedrum with sampling for a while but the price is so high. It's only gonna be more now that Elektron discontinued it :(

Yea $2000 is insane for a new one, originals are less than a grand like the link Chank posted, and building a full Shruthi XT with Polivoks board would be in the $250-300 range which is much more manageable (and cheaper if you do just a Shruthi). Can't help but feel like that price is influenced by some stupid "muh russian synthz" factor.

Do people really like the Polivoks for anything besides the filter? Or is that really the main attraction?

Really I just want it because Vertonen made one of the best records ever with it ( 11° 22.4'N 142° 35.5'E / HACE/26,250' ) and because an acquaintance of mine had one and didn't fucking sell it to me because he's a prick and wanted to "make money"

But the Shruthi Polivoks board would not be a real substitute (even the XT)

The big thing to buying a new one would be (ostensibly) that you have someone you can trust to repair it, which is hardly a given when talking about 30 year old Russian synths of somewhat dubious build quality.

Not that I'll pay 2 large for it, but I'm waiting to hear back as to what the cost actually is.

I know the Shruthi Polivoks wouldn't be the same, anywhere near, but it would probably be as good/better for me personally (size, price, digital oscillators are the shit, etc.) If a PV reissue/clone came in under the used price on the originals, i'd begin talking. Not very much mind you, because i should not be acquiring new gear, but a little.

The Machinedrum... I kind of wonder how good the non-UW Machinedrum actually is, because in my (admittedly brief) experience of the Octatrack, the sequencer is crazy powerful, and i probably wouldn't need more sampling than the OT provides. But a lot of people who talk about the Machinedrum make it sound like it's nothing without the sampling. I feel like i could probably make most of the music i would ever want with a Machinedrum UW and an Octatrack, but the non-UW is like half the price. Le bummer 4ever.

I've never used the UW part yet I don't think. Matter of fact, ive just been having a blast with one of the drum synths. Totally connected with it much quicker than the op-1...perfect swap. I honestly haven't even gotten that deep with it either.

I think the real benefit of user wave beyond custom kits is the resample to mangle and stuff but you have an octatrack. Haha. I dunno...I'm just a simple dude with this stuff (drum machines and me don't get along very well in general haha).

Heard. Currently sampling different iterations of my Vermona DRM1 mkIII into the Octatrack before i sell it off. Goal is to get a "cheaper" drum synth or machine, put the rest of the money towards my ever-growing moving fund. The Nord Drum 2 is really enticing, what with pretty extensive MIDI CC controls and the ability to play all 6 drums on one MIDI channel, or to put any drum sounds on their own MIDI channel and play them as Monophonic Melodic parts. But, ND2s are hard to find, only have stereo outs, and are roughly similar used prices to used Machinedrums. Sooooo...

But, also, i love drum machines, and could do most of the music i want to make with little boxes with 16 buttons at the bottom. My musical tastes moved away from punk and metal to electronic stuff years ago, and my wrist and back pain makes bass playing pretty hard.

Im a day early, but I want to get built a wenge one piece wizard profile neck with an ebony fretboard for my first guitar and finish a project that's long been on hold.
I was thinking of headstock design, and I thought it'd be cool to put the old ibanez roadstar one on there and look really bizarro on the RG superstar style body.
In looking at roadstars I found this: https://reverb.com/au/item/1605782-vint ... yal-violet

And now I just want an Ibanez Royal Violet guitar.
Looks like the 80s was the only time they did them.

It's very hot.
A mate of mine who now writes songs for Sesame Street had a green roadstar back when we were teenagers and I thought it was so weird and daggy that I couldn't decide if I liked it or not.
Now that I've grown some taste buds I could definitely handle having one to ogle and fondle
