If we're talking classic rock Blue Oyster Cult seems a better guess.

Here's a weird thing: I've always wanted to hear The Cure cover The Grateful Dead's Touch of Grey. Although I'd settle for Dinosaur Jr in the style of their Just Like Heaven cover.

Yeah I was thinking of the almighty Öyster but I wish I'd been talking about Boards of Canada.

Touch of Grey is a great song. The Dead rule. Fuck all of you.

It's a great song. Jam band bassists are just incapable of laying into a good, simple groove.

I feel like for many, many people, The Dead were ruined by their fans. Growing up in the 90s, it was a huge thing in my town to be a shithead frat boy and have a Steal Your Face sticker on the Yakima wind foil atop your 4Runner, whether or not you actually even knew anything about the band. With assholes like these around, a garden variety trustafarian would've been a glorious breath of patchouli-scented air.

That aside, I always had a soft spot for the band, and my love for them has grown over the past decade or so. They're just so damn good, so singular. It's funny to see that they're enjoying a resurgence these days among people who'd previously been too bummed by the jam band crowd mentality to get into em... now it's oddly cool to like them (see the recent Dessner brothers-curated comp, et al). Regardless of how one could feel about that, I like seeing them get their due.

They're indeed great, but no.
