Peavey Transtube Amps

Post by JereFuzz »

I have a:
Silver Stripe Express 112
Red Stripe Bandit
Red Stripe Studio Pro
Current Production Envoy

These can be found pretty inexpensively on CL, eBay, or pawn shops. The new production models are not expensive either.

Peavey is pretty proud of itself for Transtube technology and it should be. The vintage/classic overdrive settings are very organic and responsive; the lead/overdrive channel can also take pedals well. For a while I was a bit disappointed with the lead/overdrive channel until I turned the bass all the way down. The Transtube circuit emphasizes the bass way too much. Once you get the sound you want with the bass all the way down you can slowly creep it up until it sounds fat enough.

Anyway, who else is a Transtube fan?

I had one of those little bass combos, the max 126. It sounded pretty amazing for heavy guitar. definitely a good little practice amp. I would have loved to hear one with some more headroom/ bigger speakers

Wow, I never heard of these but I had thought to myself "what if they put transtube in a pedal?" ... I see the did! Randall has done something similar with their rg line of transistor amps ...
