That's what I gathered from the coffee and riff with Joel and knobs. When he talked about pretty much just leaving it on all the time, meant to me that it is great for subtle richness. I wish mine would get here when I'm home. Missed ups again so now I'm waiting for Monday :grumble:

Yeah with the WV, I've found that a good place to start messing with that sheen/thickening sound is with the knobs all at noon, then push a little bit in various directions to refine. Before I owned one, it was what drew me to the pedal in sound samples. It doesn't sound anything like a normal chorus, instead more of this very pretty, hi-fi, vaguely 12-string effect.

I was getting into this pretty territory on the TR by having the mix lower, tone all the way up. Shiny without being cheesy.

Sucks about UPS, man! I know that pain! Do you live in NY? I remember UPS wouldn't leave anything up there without a sig (could go for any big city, I guess).

Just jumping into the studio this morning and before starting work on a new song which i hope to complete and post today if time allows, i wanted to try out the new toys from this week and thought i'd share here since it's partly focus around the Tonal Recall

I had to post the quick mess around clip because man... i am in love with all three of these effects. The Culture Vulture is so incredibly versatile from subtle to smashing to strange to beautiful. I can't wait to try it out on other parts of a mix. The Chase Bliss modulation is already becoming one of my favorite modulated delays ever. The Empress Reverb is the reverb i've been waiting for. Here i used the Ghost setting and man... it's so moody and eerie and plays so well with the Chase Bliss modulated repeats and the type of distortion i was getting with the Culture Vulture.

Back to the lab now to use these three on a full recording but wanted to quickly share the sounds i was getting because, to me, they're incredible.

Man. I just played mine some more. K-Line Springfield (strat) > TR > Carr Mercury. I had the amp pushed into a little bit of drive that would especially show up when I dug in. Sounded fucking glorious. I'll try to throw a mic on it later today if I can and get a sample.

Full review:

The volume and amplitude of the repeats reminds me a lot of the Boss delays I've had. The repeats seem to only get as loud as the input signal. After the 50/50 point on the mix knob, they don't get any louder either and it feels like a significant volume drop if I have the mix too high. I mean, when I'm recording I never make the mix higher than that unless I'm trying to bury myself in ambience. But for me the useable range of the mix knob is between 2:30 and 3:30, and it seems like there's A LOT of change between those points. And the volume issues are only compounded when you're using trails. This part of it might be a deal-breaker for me... This also makes it dissappear a little when you're using it with dirt. You can adjust the mix so you get strong repeats even with dirt, but there is definitely a volume drop because of the way the mix knob behaves.

I've figured out how to get those grainy repeats better. If you have the tone knob between 2 and max, and set the regen knob so it's on the edge of self oscillation, then you can get some really gritty/grainy repeats depending on how you're playing. You can get some cool controlled feedback stuff that responds a lot to how you're playing and that's a lot of fun!

The sound quality of the repeats isn't as hi-fi as I thought they were going to be. In terms of delay signal quality, they remind me a lot of the old DOD analog delay that I used to have. They respond to your playing in a way that's similar to the DMM, but the repeats on the DMM are much more detailed than the Tonal Recal. But I might not be remembering ghe DMM right. The detail on the Tonal Recall depends a lot on how you have the tone knob set too. They are super pretty The response of the repeats also changes a lot between delay modes. They're a lot stronger on the short mode. I suspect this is because they were trying to make that a slapback mode. The volume of the repeats changes between modes and because the mix knob is so sensitive it's a little hard to compensate.

The modulation on this thing is amazing! Once I wrapped my head around how the stuff works and how to dictate the way the ramp effects everything else, I was able to get allllll sorts of weird stuff and beautiful stuff out of it! I can't get enough of how much control I have over how things are modulated. You can turn it into a chorus and modulate the modulations. You can create almost random sounding flurries in your delay signal. And the signal really does play very VERY well with the input signal.

Like, it seems to be more of a delay that plays with you than a delay you play with, if that makes sense? I feel like I need to run an always-on compressor after this to fix a lot of the "problems" I'm having with the Tonal Recall. I can see why they said it was an always on kind of pedal. If it's always on you don't really notice how quiet your signal's gotten after you've turned the mix up.

Bottom line: I really like how the repeats sound and behave and I really like the modulation control (and all the other controls), but I might sell it because I don't know if I can live with how quiet the repeats are...

There's a lot you can do with internal trimmers. We try to calibrate it to please the most people, and I'm a little hesitant to post the trimmer info for the whole world to see because it would result in a lot of messed up pedals, but I think you'll be able to get it how you like with a couple trimmer twists.

We try to calibrate it to please the most people, and I'm a little hesitant to post the trimmer info for the whole world to see because it would result in a lot of messed up pedals, but I think you'll be able to get it how you like with a couple trimmer twists.
