Yee, I'm going to mod another ds-1 that I just got. I'm wanting to turn it into a clean booster as detailed here: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f21/make- ... 50815.html
it says to clip diodes 4 and 5 and cap. 12, my question is: can I take the parts out of the circuit without clipping them? if that makes sense.
DS-1 Mod Question.

Re: DS-1 Mod Question.
Heat up the solder joints and either use solderbraid/ a de solder pump to remove the solder or if you want just pull on the component (which will get hot so be careful) while heating and hope it pops out.
Wear eye protection if you are going to desolder, it can often spit.
Other than that... no, can't think of another way to get them out the circuit.

so I couldn't just connect a wire to one leg and lead it off the board somewhere? I meant remove the component from the circuit wothout removing it from the board.
thank you.

Re: DS-1 Mod Question.
Out of interest, why is it that you want to leave them in the board?
Anyway, you're going to have to break them from the board somehow... I suppose you could short them... if you lifted one leg you could run it to a SPST to remove them from the circuit mechanically.
I'm not sure of the board layout so it makes things trickier... might be able to jumper a lead over the components to ground.

They're placed in an awkward position to put back in if I don't like the way it sounded. thanks for your help.

Well if that's the case you can make them switchable easily, just take one leg up and run it to a SPST switch (but seeing as it's 3 components you'd want a 3PDT) and then run a wire from the spare hole to the switch to break or make the connection, Simplez.

D4 and D5 are clippers and can be removed from the circuit via a SPST or SPDT switch.
So you only need a DPDT/DPST switch here.
