LOL!!! i TOTALLY thought that was just an anime rip, i was like "ITS THE SOUND!"
You mean, people know the noise these things make outside of Japan ?
On my first year here, it took me days to realize that these noises I heard from my apartment were not a malfunctioning electric device somewhere nearby but actual insects :picard:

I can't download until Thursday or Friday. I am in a hotel in Des Moines until then. When I get home I will download onto must computer ASAP.

The shorter sample is of my old Knas Ekdahl Polygamist into some VST that mangled it in a nice way.
The longer one is a wooden Flute from Gautamala recorded by my iPad into Flux FX.

So how's everyone getting on? I've got some fun noises going, trying to harangue music out of everything is a very interesting job! I like where my piece is going so far though. What a great idea this whole thing was. :joy:

^^^ Adulting and work have been kicking me square in the dick repeatedly the past month or so. Having some equipment malfunctioning on top of all that. Samples aren't loading into my MPC so I am reworking how to go about constructing this track. May 7th is plenty of time though.

Yeah, same. For some reason I thought we'd set the deadline for this weekend or something and I wigged for a sec. May 7th's fine.

May 7th works for me as well (although I may be traveling on that date).

Also, how is everyone finding the project? I haven't had a chance to dive into the samples yet myself, but I'd love to hear what those who have are thinking (I imagine there's something along the lines of "fuck me what am I to do")

So much yes to this. I'd love to hear the approaches y'all are taking.

I've been experimenting with some options... started messing around with AudioMulch and it's really rad. Also have been diving into Logic's native EXS24 sampler, which is not so bad. Also did some research and came across DiscoDSP's Bliss soft sampler... it looks pretty cool and is currently going for about 60 bucks until May 1st.

Really could use some inspiration via hearing others' plans.

I've been sketching out the skeleton in my head and will use the best samples that adjust it once I get my hands on it.

So far I just listened to the samples and picked a handful that made me think "hrmm what if I..." and then pulled them into Ableton to play around. Have some really nice textures happening, but nothing that seems to go anywhere as yet. Definitely sounds like me though!

From listening to them all I got a bit of a vibe in my head I wanted to aim for, then I've just been playing with samples individually, cutting them up and trying out vsts (lots of messing woth pitch) till I find sounds I think I can use for that vibe! Then I'm stitching them together in daw. I wanted to use the electribe but I got bored bouncing samples across. I plan to come back to it at some stage in the process though because it does stuff that I find tougher in a computer environment.
