TOGGLE SWITCH

Post by intrepido »

Hi dear ILFz,
recently I istened to the new John Scofield album that flattered me 100%. So great! He sometimes uses a sort of - its sounds to me at least - artifical vibrato and I decided to give it a try. I own a MDfi Electronics "Pitch Pirate" and I wonder if I could replace the on-off switch with a toggle one, just to make it more easy to engage the effect.
Thanks a lot!

With a 3dpt toggle on/off control, yes. You should be able to just wire it up the same to a 3dpt toggle as it is to the switch right now.

I would be honest, i haven't tried to install a flip switch over a footswitch but i would avoid doing it on a mid-fi pedal because they are so gorgeously built that modifying one would almost ruin the value of it AND there is little to no room to move around in those enclosures and you run the risk of messing something up if you aren't patient.....

let us know if you make the attempt, i'd be curious to hear if it works.....

you should probably ask this in the DIY section, we've got some brilliant brainiac builders hanging out there....

It will work, no reason for it not to, functionally stomps and toggles do the same thing and in the pedal they're wired in the standard stomp box fashion... but I don't see why you would want to because I agree very much with this statement >

i would avoid doing it on a mid-fi pedal because they are so gorgeously built that modifying one would almost ruin the value of it

But each to there own, I would think it voids any warranty doug gives though and messing up is possibility.

Uuuuh, sorry. Maybe I've spelled it wrongly. I didn't mean toggle, rather a momentary switch, you know, the one that doesn't have to be "clicked" to the on or off position. The thing is make it part of your actual playing, like: noooote-eoeo(vib)-eeee (sorry for this...) everytime you feel like to do it. It's a super cool way of enhance your playing... For those that warns about voiding the warranty (thanks), the pedal is two years old, so... BUT, the messy gut of the mid-fies scares me a little bit. Let's see. What about a "Clone Theory" mod? XD

Why not install a momentary switch and keep the bypass too? It shouldn't be too difficult, though the spacing of the switches would be hard...

Good call... you'd need to rehouse it though in a 1590BB... but that would also leave you open to adding extra mods  and keeps the case stock for resale.

No reason you couldn't do it to a Clone Theory either though.

You could just build yourself a Pitch Pirate and mod it for momentary since Doug did post the schematics for his lineup a while ago.

Or you could see about getting an external feedback looper with a momentary switch - there are plenty available out there, including by builders on this board like OhNoHo, Rockness Monster and McSpunkle. Plus feedback loop = extra-crazy effects!

Stick it in a bypass looper with a momentary switch. Much easier than drilling and fiddling around with it.

On a related note, are there any momentary feedback loopers that will give you dial out the feedback (usig it just like a mometary looper)?
There are some that call me...morningstaru?
