Nice!

So.. part one of my Bajo Sexto project…

I got this NOS old National/Kay/Valco N-720 body for $30.00 never used, finished, all solid wood [Spruce and Mahogany] made in USA and stuff..
I have chosen to do no sanding so the patina doesn't change and I don't want it to look all new and shit so here is coat 1

I got a 70's MIJ epi neck for it and a selmer style tailpiece…

I bought this for $400 as a scratch and dent demo model from Sweetwater:

Image

I dropped it at my local luthier for a full pro setup, and fret job.
Then I swapped out the selector switch with a switchcraft, and a black bezel:

Image

Then I tore out the crappy Epiphone guts...

Image

Then put in Seymour Duncans: A jazz neck pickup, and a '59/Custom hybrid trembucker in the bridge.

Image

Then the hard part...ouch. New pots were English, not metric, so didn't quite fit the holes:

Image

Then installed new pots, wiring, and tone caps with my wee little soldering iron. Made up a custom wiring diagram using bits from Seymour Duncan's website, and youtube:

ready for the knobs...

and now here's my final product:

Jazz pickup is switchable between series and parallel operation, while bridge pickup is switchable between single-coil and humbucking operation. Much versatile yummy goodness.

I may still fiddle with the tone cap values and types, but right now it makes plenty of beautiful sounds to keep me satisfied.
All the pedals...the jolly, candy-like pedals...

I got this guitar from a roommate (partial loaner, but i have free reign) the electronics are absolute nonsense right now, because I think I wired it drunk.

Master volumes for both pickups, the bridge one is wired backwards, a phase switch, and a series parallel switch. But something's up with the grounding, so sometimes the switch configuration acts as a reverse killswitch and the volume comes through when you make physical contact with the exposed volume pots.

Maybe just gut it and have an on/off switch?

This is a few years old now, but I'm bored so I'll post it. My home guitar. Warmoth black korina body + raw canary neck, CS fat 50, CS69 and SD SSL-5 pickups with a bass toggle next to the 5-way.

MAN that wood is so full of sex I feel like a virgin again.

I'm sitting here putting together an order for a warmoth telemaster body, patiently waiting for wednesday/salary day. I was gonna go with swamp ash+a finish, but now I'm more inclined towards black korina...

Love that Strat, UglyCasanova!

Working on this Telemaster right now. weed_killer made the body out of gym bleachers and scrap lumber. The neck is a custom order from USA Custom Guitar. The top is painted with thin coats of Minwax white tint stain base, and the back is stained with water based Speedball screen printing ink. And everything's getting coated with Birchwood Casey Tru Oil. (I liked the multiple plank vibe of the body, but wanted to tone it down a bit visually, so I did thin coats to let some of the grain and seams between the multiple pieces of wood still show through.)

Hardware and electronics are still TBD, but the pickup will be a Novak JM-180 (two P90s stacked on top of each other under a JM cover.)
