12 Step Keith McMillan helpins?

sooooooooooooo...... anybody else have one of these? it's pretty pimp as butts, but man. it has been VEXING me

i run Windows 8 on a Lenova laptop, nothing installed but relevant drivers, Native Instruments Komplete and Ableton Live. 3 available usb ports, one is a NI Komplete 6 audio interface, one is a Novation LaunchKey 49, the other is the 12 Step.

when i launch Live to host the different synths i use from Komplete, LaunchKey works dandy, Komplete 6 works lovely, 12 Step works perfectly. for about 20-30 minutes. then the 12 Step still is powered up, looks fine, but when i step on it it sends no data into Live. i can unplug it and plug it back in, then it works for 2-5 minutes before it stops sending data again.

lol. we have a show this Saturday where i have ONE PART OF ONE SONG THAT IS MAYBE 40 SECONDS WHERE I REALLY FUCKING NEED THIS THING TO BE RELIABLE.

any...... ideaaaaaaaaaaas? i've tried all the different usb ports, rebooted, played with the 12 Step editor, can't find any type of sleep or time out setting.

i am STUMPED.

huh. just now, wondering if mebbe it's a usb power problem? or something? would hooking up a powered hub help then running the 12 Step into that help? SPITBALLING. IDEAS.

USB power might be a thing. Try powering it separately through something like an iphone adapter maybe ?

McMillen stuff can be nice but they tend to have annoying issues (I have a quNexus that does some really cool things but can be a pain in the ass in some situations). Have you checked with them directly ?

Definitely try a powered usb port, amazon has a couple usb 3 ones that they make with a couple rapid charge ports I put my power hungry gear into.

Osci - i'm an idiot and LAG, so even though i've known about this problem for weeks, just emailed them. got a response email sharpish saying they're out of the shop during Sunday, will respond soon.

D-Rodgers - any one you recommend? or just find a tiny powered buggererer?

hah. just did a firmware update. the interface controller app said ......

"version expected: 28
version found: UNKNOWN"

soooooo......... THAT'S something. will try it out at practice tomorrow.

i have one for the house, love it. and if i can't figure out the problem by Saturday, having an on/off switch for that usb port would let me reboot the 12 Step right before the section i need it in.

Also - as simple as it seems, make sure to try other usb cables as well.

DEFINITELY. tried at least 6, all were ones that worked with another device fiiiiiiiiine.

Does it work with other usb midi hosts? Maybe Live is shutting down the connection? I know that problem was supposedly fixed in Live9 but I definitely have that issue sometimes in 8.
