Well, manipulating an audio buffer to get this kind of effects is simple as fuck. Seriously, take the code for a simple delay and change a couple of lines, done. I know, I made myself a VST that did this kind of stuff maybe 10 years ago and I spent more time on the interface than on the rest (it looked like a circuit-bent toy :) ).

That sounded sweet actually. Would've killed someone for that a few years ago

I'm technically impaired, so that might be the case. I was just stating that glitching has become very popular (the new wine), even with bigger brands like Malekko and CB. As a glitch fanatic, I don't mind. :snax:

Yeah, it's definitely nice to have more tools... My point was just that these (on the software side) are quite easy to make compared to things like reverbs for example. So as you said, it just shows that this is the new trendy thing.

I don't know, I'd be interested in an actual demo. The sounds in that clip sounds like Possessed lite. Not that interesting. :idk: I'm guessing you could get a lot more complex and semi-random stuff out of it, though, with all dem knobbies.

That's what I was thinking. I'm new to the whole glitch thing but from that demo this seems significantly more limited than the Charlie Foxtrot/Possessed/Judder sorta deal.

It is kinda what I expect from CB...take something and make it more palatable to a wider audience (tone it down...kinda like an edit to one sound they like/find useful).

Agree with what you all have said.

I also think it is getting too hard to "glitch"...if it is programmed to do something, it is really a "glitch" anymore? I always liked glitch because it was working with things enough to find where they don't behave correctly and you use that found behavior. If it is programmed to do that, is it really glitch? I dunno, semantics, I guess? But there is something to be said about tripping an old digital delay into a lo-fi mode and making it feedback, or tricking the gommorrah into glitchy fuzz land by getting the switch stuck inbetween or something.

I really hope it doesn't catch on in popular music...going to get real old fast on the radio (but I love them random repeats/mini samples/ and modulation of the "glitch" pedals....haha, want to keep them on the downlow).

Random thought: why in the hell are there so many freaking ring mods? Are synth players using them a lot (but they should have them in synths/modules)? No one really uses them a lot (except for a few people out there) but everyone seems to want/have one and a ton of companies make em? Are people using them as trems (but a lot don't even go this low)? I don't really hear them in music enough to see why so many different ones are on the market...

I've been wondering the same thing about ring mods. The only band I can think of that uses one is Man or Astroman

Man or Astroman?, Devo (not really since the first album though), Fripp, Kraftwerk, (I guess Flaming Lips...seeing as one was their signature pedal), a few others...but a lot of those are in synths (or in digital format these days) too...as a ring mod fanatic (and using it as an always on effect for years) I understood the limited appeal...but there are so many now...I am curious how they are being used.

A lot of the companies that make them aren't even catering to the noise/drone/weirdos. Really curious to see where they are going in the world and what the outcome is musically, haha. I wonder if some people just buy them as toys to mess around with kinda?

St Vincent also uses ring mods in fantastic ways.

That new catalin bread is cool, I'll have to try it out. But I still prefer the way Possessed does it, as it doesn't do it as often and predictably. :idk: also, that enclosure is hideous.
