Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
Malekko made a new granular delay deal, the Charlie Foxtrot. Also look out for the MWFX Judder and MWFX Glitch.
If you're looking for a looper/glitcher thing though, email the guy over at Hexe about getting a Revolver. I got a Revolver II recently and the thing is always blowing me away. I like it much more than the Possessed (although the Possessed gets some weird sounds unlike any other pedal of this category).[/quote]
I'll probably try out the Foxtrot. I feel like both that, Revolver and Judder are very akin, with slight differences.
The biggest problem with the Possessed is no actual looping capability, it just "goes", very cool though. I owned a Teaspoon years ago and that fell into glitch territory. Had cv to slow or sequence the pitch/feedback.
The Phonogene I think is the closest you'll get to the AN, because of the re-arrangement of grains(which I guess the CT5 does in the 2nd mode), then control over every parameter. My only and biggest gripe is, since it's modular, there's no foot switch. It's not a hands-free device. Unless you get it into a particular mode, you have to keep fingers on it to trigger record/playback. Obviously you can use trigger/gate or lfo's to do all that, but still keeps you from playing guitar, if you're trying to capture loops that aren't timed to lfo's or triggers. Did that make sense?
Although I love glitch/granular samplers, I really like the idea of a constant granulization and rearrangement of grains of the signal and looping. That's where the AN(Phonogene too, but differently) succeeds and everything else falls way short.

Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
reVOLVER and Judder have little alike...Judder decays and layers well but doesn't have the modes and shifting like the revolver does (at least as easily...but it does have env and LFO built in)...
reVOLVER is like a fulling controllable raptio mixed with a possessed (but not exact...just a way to explain it kinda...raptio has hold+sounds more dirty...possessed does it's own thing).
reVOLVER can constantly change things in random mode (if you find a DT it has 4 seconds instead of 1 + more reverse modes). reVOLVER II goes more for random resampling and sample changes....both can be controlled via LFO (basically his vario controller) and exp pedal. They are really nice pedals.
You'll be fighting bots and a madman magic seller in the Anti-Nautilus lottery...he knows his skilllllzz and stickerzzz.

Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
The Sonic Crayon stuff, as golden and sought after as it is, doesn't support him. And though building is something he loves, he's got a day job and a life. So the pedals come in small batches when he feels like it, or that's at least what he said some years ago (unless Important mistaken).
Considering that it makes sense. Yeah, everybody would just love if he made a living with that and concentrate on delivering the freaky cool pedals to anybody who wanted one. But since he doesn't... It'd make no sense to give that up and have somebody else to build them.

I don't think the Revolver is quite like the Judder and Foxtrot. Revolver will actually loop infinitely which is the only pedal outside of the AN that will do this.I'll probably try out the Foxtrot. Yea, actually the things you describe are why I love the phonogene so much. The ability to trigger rec, playback, splicing, whatever. I don't ever put my guitar through my eurorack though, so I won't have the problem.

Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
Honestly, it makes sense, I get it. Not to downplay any of this guy's work by any means or to encourage competition or cloning the designs, from what I've read, it's about the programming of whatever micro controller, not so much the rest of the circuitry. Also, If I had the patience to learn and program Max or Pure Data, it probably wouldn't be rocket surgery to come up with vst/whatever something like this via software and map it a midi hardware controller. But what's the fun of running your instruments into your computer(it's fun, ok, but c'mon)? Speaking of software, what's the speculatory resonance surrounding the Rebel Technology Owl and possibility of granular synthesis/looping within it?

Also, I think I'd have to get hands-on with a Revolver. For some reason, the demos didn't make it very appealing to me. Buuuut, I might've had the Teaspoon when I first heard about the Revolver years ago and never looked back into it. I love what you're describing though.

Yeah I'm definitely interested in this discussion, esp. since this is becoming about things that a lot of us have creative interest in.
Hadn't heard about the Owl, but some cursory googling hurts my brain. Open source modular??

Re: Anti-nautilus, what's up?
Yes, open source modular, but there's also a pedal version. I think Snazzy did an Arduino module...but all that is seriously Greek to me. I know zip zero nada about programmed. Knobs, patch cables, cv makes sense to me and comes pretty intuitively, but code etc is unfortunately mumbojumbo to me. Glad I could bring a pertinent subject, not just GAS!!!D.o.S. wrote:Yeah I'm definitely interested in this discussion, esp. since this is becoming about things that a lot of us have creative interest in.

In the video, every time I press and hold the switch it resamples (up to the time setting or as long as I hold the switch....with time being the max) and the mod depends on the mode. glitch is momentary repeats that always go to max...the other modes will repeat whatever sample I capture by holding the switch (length wise) and repeat forever. The speed and mode sets the range of shift, speed, direction (like reverse to 2x speed)...each mode changes the range of the speed knob.
The repeats have a separate volume and tone and the dry signal can be on or off.
Speed knob is contolled by hand, exp controller or vario controller (and can go the whole sweep changing the sample from half time to double time or whatever).
There are also random resampling modes and random speed change modes. speed sets the range of random changes.
