I bought a de7 on a whim for $20 (cause the little delay time slider switch is wonky) last year and it has become one of my favorite delays ever. I haven't had a delay that will sit in the background as nicely as it does. I would love to get it rehoused and have the switch sorted, but JHS is the only place I've found that has done it, and fuck them.

Are there any builders on here that'd be willing to rehouse a DE7? I found another dude that says his rehousings start at $100, but I'd rather support a fellow ilf bud.

love the de7 as well, but it's been giving me shit at shows lately. won't turn on or off unless I hit that sweet spot. if I could get it modded with a switch I'd be so happy  the knobs also seem finicky so I haven't touched them in a couple of months  I'm really surprised this thing gets so much love
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Maybe all the DE7 owners could pool together on getting theirs rehoused? Might be more enticing/profitable for everyone if we go in GROUP BUY styles? I know I'd be in. And it'd give me an excellent excuse to buy another, sooner :excellent:

I miss my De7 but yeah, I hated the case and the switch. I ended up building a Madbean Cavedweller and a Grind Customs de Profundis. I thought they nailed the pseudo-analog repeats and the not over-powering oscillations but YMMW. I'm selling the Grind (not to spam toooooo much) and keeping the Madbean, only because the Madbean is in a smaller enclosure.

I'm looking around for yet another delay pedal myself, with similar requirements as what you're talking about...
So far on my list:

Digitech Obscura: Seems pretty unique in the way it's basicaly a faux analog delay, but with a reverse mode, which isn't too common for compact analog-ish delay peds. Mostly though, I love the tone/degrade controls. I don't know of a single other compact <$150 delay pedal that lets you mess with both those parameters. I'm picky when it comes to the color/tone and amount of mushyness of my repeats, and you're usually stuck with what the pedal builder came up with.

Echo Park: I know Line6 doensn't have the best reputation, and sound whise the echo park isn't a superdelay or anything...But it's hard to say no to all those modes, even if I don't really need em. They should sound decent enough, at least if they're close/identical to the same modes on the DL4. The on/off switch contraption is a pita, but that's what bypass looper/switchers are for, right?

Vapor Trail: I'm liking the send/return options, though I'd probably hardly ever put em to good use.

I'll also have to take a closer look at the ehx offerings. The (deluxe) memory boy isn't too pricey, there's the echo puss, the whole DD range,...

The only delay pedal I have now, and highly recommend: Ibanezs ES-2. The aesthetics are just a nice bonus. Tap tempo, easily controllable oscillation, longer than usul delay times,...Don't reallly care for the modulation, but that's probably just me. I NEVER come across a modulated delay I really like
I also used to have a Hardwire DL8. It's cheap, and has a nice analog emulation. It just sits right in a mix, don't even know what it is exactly. I said 'a' nice analog emulation, cause my only realy gripe with the DL8 would be that the tape/lofi/analog modes sound extremely similar, the differences are hardly audible in a loud mix.

As far as super simple and super cheap nice sounding delay pedals go...I can't really think of anything that's quite like the DE7 :idk:

Regarding the OP possibly getting a DD-3: If you like the sound of the DE-7, especially the Echo, the DD-3 won't be the same. Granted in terms of durability, Boss stuff is nearly indestructible.

Headrush is a good delay but the Tape setting won't sound like the Echo (yeah its tape emulation vs analog emulation), but the point is it won't get there.

Like other people are saying, just get another DE-7.

I've had a few DE-7s and the only issue I ever had was the switch giving out - which is likely over time. If you can solder, I think Small Bear Electronics sells replacements. Pretty straight forward to replace.

The switch replacement with a soft touch is pretty easy to do.
or you can just get a small TB pedal and sticck the DE7 in that and not worry about it anymore,
That's a cheap non-invasive solution.

I saw a few on the geartalk facebook page if peeps want em they should get after it before this thread hypes the thing into more expensive territory (because ILF is trendsetting now)

Honestly, the 7 series has a few real gems that could become collectible: LF7, FZ7, PM7, DE7...
