Can anyone give me a rundown of the comparisons between the Mother and sister? Demos comparing the two?

Pretty sure the Sister is the exact same, just 100w instead of 200

Re: I want a Science Amplifier
The Mother has a slave out. The Sister has an FX loop.
The Mother's depth knob affects both inputs. The Sister's depth knob affects only the OD channel.
The OD circuit is the same on both amps though their implementation is slightly different.
The Mother is for all intents and purposes a DR201. The Sister is more or less a DR103.
I believe they share the same EQ, like all Hiwatt amps did.
I might be biased (though I do really want a Sister) but, the Mother is more suited for double duty as the depth knob revoices the whole amp and not just the OD channel like on the Sister.
Oh and the Sister has a resonance control in addition to the presence control, tames dem low-low mids.

Re: I want a Science Amplifier
I did this one custom just because the timing worked out well for the custom faceplates, etc, but I will never make another one like it. It does have the exact same features and clean tone as the regular Street Sweeper minus the reverb section. I thought about maybe offering it as a model since so many people seem to want a pedal platform, and already have fancy Strymons, Eventides, that make the 'real' reverb somewhat redundant, however it was just too straight-forward for my personal tastes, (just because there's nothing really special about it feature-wise). Of course, this amp would be the perfect fit for a lot of people who want simplicity.zeravla wrote:https://reverb.com/item/1343573-2015-science-amplification-street-sweeper-100w-head-kt88-tubes-handwired
Looks like someone is selling their Street Sweeper. It's gorgeous but I wouldn't want one without that awesome sounding reverb. That's just me though.

Re: I want a Science Amplifier
Both "Normal" channels of the both Mom & Sis are based of the early 70's Hiwatt DR preamp with a few tweaks to make them play nicer with more pickups and speakers. The clean tone can be dialed in almost identically to the Street Sweeper (which has a clean more like a BF Fender or Dumble), but has a different style EQ, which has a wider mid range sweep. Besides the more stout 200W power amp, FX Loop, and Resonance control, and different power tubes the Sister and Mother can be dialed in 99% identically at the same power levels. I have a setup in the shop where I can remotely footwitch amp on the fly into the same speaker cab, which allows me to A/B amps very closely. Both amps are virtually indistinguishable until you get over 100W, and the Sister starts to break up and compress a bit more, while the Mother stays bolder and tighter in the low end.Inconuucl wrote:Can anyone give me a rundown of the comparisons between the Mother and sister? The OD channel is a bit different on both amps. The Sister has more low mids, that would make the Mother too muddy for bass, but for guitar it has a bit more guts to it, while the Mother is more open in the low-mids, with extended low end. Sister is also a little more aggressive in the upper-mids, where the Mother is a bit 'smokier'. Again, did not want to make the Mother too 'clanky' when being used for bass. Still The Mother has plenty of top end for guitar.
And as Walter mentioned, the "Depth" control on the Sister is reserved for Overdrive channel only. This allows some EQ independence between channels, which is not an issue on the Mother since you just pick one input or the other. With the Depth control just for the OD channel, you can make the preamp very tight and increase the lows in the power amp with the Resonance control. Conversely, you can loosen-up the preamp with the Depth up which will fatten up single notes at the expense of tightness. Lots of versatility in the Sister's OD channel.
Hope that helps!

I really debating on getting a Sister or a Decolonizer. Feature wise, they are really similar. Without being able to play one, it's hard to choose between Hiwatt inspired and Marshall inspired...

She is here!

It was the coldest day of the year so far so I am being overly protective and making sure everything comes to room temperature before playing. The tonez will have to wait for tomorrow.
