Using two of same pedal? Different settings? Discuss!

Post by Chankgeez »

If you have two of the same pedal on your board (or whatever), how do you have them set?

You can think of this as a companion thread to this: viewtopic.php?f=149&t=49662

I didn't wanna clog up Clockworker's thread asking soapbars about Harmonic Percolator settings.

I love using stacked distortions.

Distortion+

I love two or three D+ in series with the same settings. It gets compressed and punchy in a way one D+ cannot. The only downside is that it takes a lot of time and effort to find Distortion+s with matching gain so that identical settings work. If I was cool, I would just build a couple, but meh.

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver

The first pedal I stacked, because I heard that Swervedriver did it. The trick is to dime the first one (every knob fully clockwise) and use the second one to control the chaos. It is a bit of a hassle to find the sweet spots, and not something I would try in a live situation, but I love it.

Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal

I've used it both ways: one dimed and the second dimed, save for volume, and with both set to the Godflesh setting. (Godflesh setting being 3 o clock, 3 o clock, 9 o clock, 9 o clock.) Not thrilled with the results. I think two HM-2s in one enclosure with the first knobless would be rad.

For a real long time I used two ps-2 pitch shifter. I would stack the manual tune to create stuff in different and strange intervals. I also would use one as a delay or one as a pitch shifter. I only recently moved one to my synth board and changed the location for a gonkulator. I got a pitch factor so it made two ps-2s redundant.

I've act/pass-ively been trying to get a 2nd HP to bookend my setup :whoa:
First in the chain: both sliders 100% open.
Last in the chain: Input 10% Output 100% open.
I also like the idea of 2nd one having diode-lift toggle switch for more versatile boost use :snax:

It's very sensitive to gtr vol knob manipulation, especially at the extreme settings. Best used with non-master amps, but MV amps are also made more better. If you're a big fan of your existing gear, adding an HP is recommended. So fun. Such fury :animal:

I'd love to have two Demo Tape Fuzz.

One for the cranked punk style and the second one for crakeling low gain.

Good stuff.

I've sometimes run two Green Ringers. Obviously, there're no settings.

Lately I've been running an Ampeg Scrambler clone into a Green Ringer. Pretty much the same thing except you've got more control with the Scrambler.

Does the Chuck Collins have a diode-lift?

The 2 DD6s I use are the 2 last pedals in my chain.

Both are used in stereo with different signal chains before them (split by a stereo maggie vibrato early in the chain).

The first 1 is set the warp mode, I really use the warp it's self but I like to have the option, it's set for a short slapback.
The second one is left in hold mode 90% of the time, I sometimes mess with the reverse mode.

The 2 percolators I use are both in the 'guitar' side of my chain. The dominator is first after the vibrato and is set to full volume, gain at 3 o'clock, I don't use the the diode lift. The Karma Suture is downchain and acts mostly as a low gain od/boost. It stacks really really well with everything. Actually is the most versatile HP I own, and could use it for high gain stuff happily.

No diode-lift on the Chuck Collins HP. It's as true to the originals as it gets.

Both of the HPs I've got are Fredric Effects. I've got a vintage spec and a Utility (both have the diode-lift). I like the Utility Perk a little better. It's slightly quieter and lets a little more bass through. The newer versions he's building now have a third clipping option. So, it's Silicon / none / Germanium. I'd like to try a Karma Suture at some point though.

Have you starved the voltage on your Demo Tape Fuzz? Some even more awesome lofi sounds can be discovered when you drop the voltage down.
Sorry for the thread derail.

Totally not a thread derail. I'd love to try two DTFs, one of 'em having a voltage starve. Very much on topic.

I actually have 2, both clones. I have one I've built stock and the other isn't quite finished yet. That one will be housed in 1590BB and will have a starve built in and a switchable SHO boost before. When I get the other one finished I will stack them and report my findings.
