Loud Neighbors: What do you do?

Postby 01010111 » Tue Jul 11, 2017 11:55 pm

What would you guys do/what have you done about noisy neighbors in the past? I live in an apartment complex and my upstairs neighbors are crazy loud. So loud we can literally shazam everything they play. We have quiet hours from 9-10, and they're generally done with their shit by 11. We aren't allowed to pound on the walls or go talk to them about it (that's in the rental agreement).

I can generally tolerate it, but tonight they were so loud they were literally rattling the furniture and we had to leave the apartment to get some quiet. If this was an occasional occurrence I wouldn't mind so much, but this is every goddamn day!

Do I just put in noise complaints every time they go even a little after quiet hours, or do I get the doom amps I've always wanted and have a sound war? What do you guys do about this?

The rental agreement says you can't talk to your neighbors about noise? Jesus. Contractual politeness can suck it.

One thing we've thought about doing is combatting it with infrasound? Make a speaker cabinet that can create those ghost frequencies and set up an arduino to trigger it whenever they're too loud? Make them think their sound-system's haunted?

Sound war won't work, though it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it anyway. Silence is kvlt, too.

File a complaint or fuck with them. Something Pavlovian. Send some consistently terrible smell up their way whenever it hits a threshold, or do your infrasound thing.

Or start playing drums. Drums are the nuclear option in total sound warfare.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Did you try talking to the landlord? If your rental agreement prevents you to take things into your own hands, they probably want to handle conflicts themselves ? :idk:

Yeah, I think it makes sense to keep tenants from trying to solve problems like these, it's just shitty. We talked to him once already, but it sounds like the upstairs neighbors have only gotten louder since talking to him....

Noisy neighbors can be a bitch ... especially if you start focusing on only that and become super sensitive to the tiniest noise after a while
at least that's what happened to me
last year we moved out of a house we had bought 3 years before because the one next to ours had 8 kids roaming about without parent supervision most of the day and late into the evening. plus their shit covered cat constantly sneaked into our house to eat our cat's food and pee all over ...
we tried different approaches but in the end there was just nothing we could do about it but leave :idk:
I am super happy we did though as I really like where we live now but I hope you will be able to find a solution

It is a war of the senses they want. Is there anywhere you can surreptitiously plant rotten fish guts around their house? Window sills, balcony, potted plants etc? Gotta be discerning about location though, to avoid blowback into your own domicile. And if they question you about it, you can just blame it on a seagull.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

I agree with the general tenor of this thread. Escalation, SPL arms race, MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION. It's been a long time since I lived in an apartment, but I used to tell my wife that loud neighbors were a free pass for me jam loud. It's the rule of mutual disrespect.
