3) Given the current political and economic climate, why are there so few revolutions? Why have the proletariat not yet seized the means of production?
I think you could actually argue there are more revolutions now than at any point in history?
But if we were not going to argue that, I would argue the reason there are not more revolutions has to do with technological advancement of weapons. The stakes are a lot higher now. If you wanted to overthrow a kingdom in Medieval Times, the latitude of differences of equipment was considerably smaller than the differences of equipment now. The fact is that laws 'protect' private property -> Laws are made by governments -> governments have a monopoly on mass violence.

Then: Two sets of knights have swords Then: Two armies have muskets Now: Civilians may have firearms but not militias and not weapons of mass destruction

For goodness sake, people just sat during the 'occupy' movement and extreme force was brought in. What liberties would be taken if civilians were actually armed?

The internet is a space so I would argue it does not signify anything.

This answer does not recommend the continued survival of human beings.

Hm. One day, there will be a reckoning with this new technics of control. Claiming that it is illegible will not diminish its metonymic importance. Humans are 'the internet;' you are abstraction; you are the thin, filmy residue left on the decaying buttresses of curated culture--the structures that support you. It will be critical that you reach consensus on whether you will cohere or disperse.

"Humans are 'the internet;'"
But they're not. Or if they are, only in the capacity that 'humans' are 'any space'. Humans are 'this D.I.Y.' venue. Humans are 'NJ'. And like a 'space' you can avoid them. And like many infrastructures in a space requiring electricity, it is amazing how fragile its existence is. If we itemized parameters of infrastructure in a physical space, your statement is applicable to the very make up of any space. A human designed a bridge, a house, cut a tree, whatever. A human did java scripting, used CSS to make a site. I don't think these things 'signify' harmony or dissonance.

Also, DadDick, I'm not even slightly interested in the new Daniel Day Lewis movie. Too self-indulgent for me.

What is a civilization but its artifacts? And how can I read the text of your species without such artifacts? If there is more to your existence than material trappings, it hasn't been made clear through your 'art,' nor is there any larger inference I can make about what it is that you aspire to. Other organisms have a clear need-based hierarchy; humans are obsessed with endless overproduction of processes and goods that don't equate to any discernable end.

If the internet is your most recent 'crown achievement,' then let's take it as such and see if the cultural jewel it represents a collective unconscious or another grab-bag of fleshy inefficiency that's been ported to an electronic milieu. Is it more of the same, or real progress? Does it contain the seeds of harmony, or is it more noise?

Again, it's neither. I know I'm talking with a giant penis but I don't understand how the rhetoric of this thought derives from a collective consciousness. I don't think it's entirely applicable.

With the criteria/judgements you outlined, you're clearly talking about humans in first world societies (dare I say privileged?). Generally speaking in these societies, the basic needs are already met hence there is room for endless wander into the material realm. On your journeys take a trip to poorer countries where inhabitants are thrilled to have a bowl of rice. What's cool about these people is...a lot of their cultures don't even have words for 'discernable end', 'fulfillment', 'vacation', or 'retirement'. These same peoples probably don't have internet access either. I'm sure if you asked them they would be cool to tell you about their existence.

The majority of the world is actually very poor, so if you were talking about a collective conscious, you're talking about a minority.

I'm not trying to determine if you have a shared intelligence, but whether you're capable of progress writ broadly. Collective effort. Humans are not the internet; the internet is human, in other words. I'm learning what I can from you by making this logical leap.

Your admonition to study the varied peoples of the world is well-taken. Consider that my questions for the Jarawas are very different than they are for you.

Let it be known, too, that Sharktooth is a credit to humankind.

Well "Thank You" Sir!

I'm trying to find the name of the Siberian Tribe that was given public housing and then were like, "NAH!!! C U s0i b0is l8r". Sort of the antithesis to materialism. Can't find it and I don't want to listen to Aubrey Marcus on Joe Rogan again.

I'm sure there are more examples of such an occurrence.

That said, I'm going to Job #2 tonight to chase the materialist dream sooooo...

Alright DadDick, let's get into the discourse. Today's Topics:
1. THE PHANTOM THREAD - The new Daniel Day Lewis movie. Has 'acting' gone too far?
2. Guitar Solos - A necessity / borderline self-indulgence / an archaic tradition / really cool / Other / All of the above / None of the above / All of the above AND none of the above
3. Tuning in alternative rock acts
4. Going back in time, to a time where Eivind didn't have the 87 Fuzz. We need to go back in time to a time, where we need to go back in time, to get said fuzz. Time travel rules are X-MEN 'Days Of The Future Past' Arc
Image
5. How to be the best ambassador of your species?
6. Sexually "disinterested" beings...

Alright so...I was going to make another account named 'Daniel Soy Lewis' and start talking shit to myself in this thread...but that seemed like way too much time and effort for everybody (myself and the site administrators) involved. So just know I was going to have an avatar of Daniel Day Lewis calling me all sorts of disparaging names. I was going to use this picture and have Lewis make allusions to burying me ("I'm going to put you in the grave!"). It seemed really funny in my head but it probably isn't.
Image
Eventually, I was going to learn my lesson and apologize to Mr. Day Lewis (he might actually be a Knight so 'Sir Daniel Day Lewis').
