And there is no way it would be better, Michael Sheen is so great.

OK OK I can see the similarity, especially around the eyes. IDK how I missed it last night. Still can't say I've ever mixed them up :idk:

Michael Sheen is much better than Pegg would have been in this though :idk:

Yeah I never liked it quite as much as most Terry Pratchett books. Which means I still liked it. But IDK it has some great ideas but didn't grab me. This was a long time ago though and I'm enjoying the series. May give the book another spin later

They just gutted the core being of The Boys in the show compared to the comic. Just seems like the whole charm of the comic is now gone, and while i don't think The Boys is necessarily a bad show, I'm just not sure I'm happy with the changes. Not really sure what you mean by "didn't age well". Seems like the core concept would have been fine. Anything that would have been "more offensive" should just be taken in the context of "your heroes aren't pure" and I don't really see an issue. But that's just me.

when's the last time you read it? there's an uncomfortable amount of homophobia and rape as jokes in it for me, and it's just SO EDGY that yep, i dig the core concept. a LOT. but it's pretty cringe some times.

as always, to me, everybody gots a different opinion, and that is GOOD, all that.

I haven't read it for a few years. I never took any of the rape stuff as a joke; just more in the vein of things that look pure often aren't. Unless you're talking about what happened to Wee Hughie in the sewers.... in which case that was hilarious in the context of the situation and even funnier when you know who that character is. But I don't have a refined sense of humor.

I think this probably sums it up fairly well for me. There's a few minor points I don't agree with, but oh well. Nothing is perfect.

yeah, i mean. i LOVE Ennis. and that's just a reality of trying to push against what's comfortable at the time, history will view that as either a good deriding of shitty cultural norms, or a time capsule shot OF those shitty cultural norms.

not a fan of the whole "that's offensive" response to media in a lot of ways, i rarely get offended. you can see the intent of most art to subvert, and even if it falls flat, the attempt is how we grow as people. not talking shit about the books, i read them a ton when they came out, just rereading after watching the series made me feel a bit awkward in places.

lol. and i kinda gave up on IT'S NOT THE SAMEEEEE with movies/series. i try to separate the original and see if i enjoy the advancing framerate version more as an homage than a translation?

I don't mind subtle differences and stuff... But sometimes they change the core of the story and then it's no longer what it was modeled after. Not having that central driving hatred for Butcher in The Boys makes me wonder how the next season won't feel directionless. I feel like Preacher did some of the same stuff. Runaways did it too. Like if they ever did Crossed and made the main antagonist zombies or something equally stupid instead of deranged maniacs, it'd just feel different.

That's not to say major changes can't be good. I don't mind it if things are wildly different but the message is the same and the story is well written. But taking out things central to the character inspiration just never feels like it is done well.

i feel that. all valid points.

i guess when i was younger i would get PISSED when they did something like... World War Z. why? just.... why? THAT needs a faithful adaptation as a R rated series.

now i just... i just don't care. part of it is sequel/reboot/adaption burnout, part is expecting shitty differences, part is just being older and more mellow? i guess?

lol. fuck me. and now? living in what feels like either our chance to make substantial changes (hopefully, but doubtful), the begininng of the end times (terrifying but doubtful), or minor changes that ruin all the work people have put into change (terrifying in an altogether different way but most likely).... just.... i don't CARE about media stuff that much anymore.

i'm glad they got BL 3 right, i like that Gerard Way is still doing graphic novels, i enjoy movies and series. but i just don't have any investment or excitement in movies or tv right now.

Anyone else watch Devs? (FX on Hulu)
I haven't enjoyed much TV the last few years but quite liked this one. Really beautifully put together.

Just watched the Colour out of Space and really enjoyed it. I kind of wished it dove a little deeper into Annihilation type of surrealism. Also, kind of wish Nic Cage didn't have a penchant for using like 9 different weird voices/accents per movie. But overall, it was worth watching!

Might try to start Dark season 3 tonight, or at least this week.
