I'm finally trying Final Fantasy X for the first time, I will likely hate it.

EDIT:
I might need to find a way to change the language. :erm:

Videogame critic websites are just the fucking worst.
Like that IGN video about CALL OF FUCKING DUTY where they complained about how the demo involved killing terrorists and that there weren't any "non-lethal options". I mean, holy shit, just move to china if you're gonna get so worked up about a war game that actually has some depiction of war and involves killing. :whateva:

I don't understand why these writers seem convinced that all videogames need to be exactly as nuanced as real life. Fuck the source material. Fuck what the game's trying to depict. Fuck that the game is literally being developed in partnership with the creator of the original RPG. Nah, the game's problematic because black people can be enemies in the game and the player character allegedly mocks their pronunciations of certain words.

To be fair, the PR for the new COD has been kinda gross - the edgy; 'what real war in the modern age is like' idea can work. Something like the cancelled 'Six Days in Fallujah' or even a Sicario-esk game where wet-work is justified for the greater cause - though having players potentially kill Babies as an attempt at making them feel bad for is pretty tasteless... I can already imagine the YT thumbnails of the edgelords doing it.

If you want realism, you're going to have fewer but more impactful combat sections, otherwise it's going to be arcadey - which compromises making any compelling moral statements; ala Spec Ops: The Line. Touching on PTSD is possible, but it's a legitimate issue that would need serious finesse to talk about and would work far better in a different genre. CoD4 was an excellent game for it's genre and it worked well in it's own hyper realistic way, it's bubblegum and some gum is better made than others.

:idk:

Snagged Spiderman on sale in playstation store. I'm about halfway through it not. I'm really, really impressed. Like, really impressed. The story is ok, not bad. But they've really captured the feel of the character imo.

Speaking of, I never really got into the series, but recently picked up a cheap Chinese bootleg of Final Fantasy IV Advance on a whim. Really enjoying it so far! The story got me invested and after a while I actually got into the turn-based fighting, which is generally not my thing.

Fair point, but the IGN reporters seemed to be more worked up about the basic COD aspect of going into a place and killing people because you're a soldier (again, I'm referring to the one dude who wanted the ENTIRE FUCKING GAME to be non-lethal and the reporters that had to keep reminding us how "uncomfortable" they were that a CALL OF DUTY GAME had "a bunch of guns") than the hamfisted attempt by Activision to have players role-play as tier 1 operators, moral issues and all.
That being said, it's not like it's anything new with COD. MW2 had an entire level dedicated to just killing civilians for the sake of doing it so players would have a slightly better understanding of the overall story and so the game would feel "more realistic".

Found out about this game after seeing some stuff from the guy that animated the trailer, looks...potentially interesting?

Makes me think of Destiny meets Rings of Elysium?

About 15 hours into Final Fantasy X, the character designs are still questionable, Blitzball fucking sucks and the environments give me massive Star Wars: Phantom Menace vibes. The PS4 port genuinely looks great and the soundtrack has it's moments. I see why people like it. For better or worse, it certainly feels like a game from 2001 - one of the better ones. It's just in this weird period where Voice and writing wasn't at the level it is today and feels like weirdly primitive.

Definitely not in my top 5 FF games, but it's not as bad as I imagined it to be.

...I'm fucking dreading FFX-2.

FFX-2 is great though. And the combat system is neat.

Blitzball is great

The character design is eh.

The writing and voice acting is very bad.

The combat system is great!

Overall I have enjoyed it a lot, but I played it at the time so things were a bit different...

Yeah FFX-2 is actually decent. The game mechanics are really fun. But some of the story, characters and writing can get pretty annoying so I see why people disliked it.

Wooo. IV is great.

If you like that try VI! It's fantastic and the pinnacle of the sprite era FF games.

My Friend Pedro is lots of fun. it's pretty much super watered down puzzles from a Portal'esque game filtered through CONSTANT MAX PAYNE BULLET TIME ACTION WOOOOOO.

..... Mummy Demastered is GREAT. fuck the movie it "adapts", and you can tell the developers said exactly that then just made a fun ass Metroidvania game.

Funny that you mention that. Got that SNES Classic thingamajig as a chrimbus gift from my brother two years ago, and just hooked it up to start VI! :!!!: Really enjoyed IV, and have gathered that VI is even better.

Hmm, Korean-Jank Sci-Fi FPS mixed with a Beat'em up. Could be... good?

Is that the game that was made by using a bunch of UE4 assets and there was some big controversy about it?

I have no idea.
