gun things and the things they do

Postby behndy » Mon Apr 21, 2014 11:28 pm

soooooo... they have ruled it illegal to make it so hard to get a CCW here in Cali, i wanted to grab another gun anyways, but i was going to get a conceal sized thinger just in case.

questions - i have a .45 for home and a .38 for the shop, was thinking about a 9mm for the smaller gun because more rounds. Cali you can't have more than 9 in a mag anyways i think, so a 9 full sized you lose the extra rounds bonus.

any suggestions on a smaller 9? so far the Kimber Solo and the Beretta Nono look neat, havna checked to make sure they're CA legal yet though.

meow?

This is what I carry around.

Image

It's a .380, so a bit less power than you are talking about, but with hollowpoints, still effective.
It's small, very lightweight, and fits in your pocket with ease. The integral laser is a nice thing too. I think most people have been conditioned by hollywood to fear having a red laser on them. so it adds a bit of psychological intimidation as well. the one time I ever had to point it at someone (Meth head crashed a jeep into my garage and was all crazy about it) the guy didn't react to the gun pointed at him, but ran when I turned the laser on.

My take on a carry pistol is it to place a priority on ease of carry and unobtrusiveness. Having a more powerful, accurate weapon is great and all until you don't bring it with you because it's a pain in the ass. this thing you can have on you wearing just shorts and a t shirt and no one would know. 6 in the clip is enough to dissuade some one from having violent intentions towards me while I execute my exit strategy. I carry it safety off, with no round in the chamber. It's safe enough for me that way. the amount of time it takes to chamber a round is negligible as far as I'm concerned.

the only issue I've had with it was the plastic inside the belt holster I got for it would squeeze the mag release. Once I figured out the issue I modded the holster and its fine now.
I've had no malfunctions at the range with it.

holy SHIT butts fuck practicality i want THOSE TWO. UGH.

AxAxAxAxAxAxAs - innnnnnteresting. only thing about .380, i thought t was really expensive to shoot? i was looking at 9's because i know with my big ass hands a conceal size gun isn't going to be the best in comfort, but i wanted something that wouldn't tear up my hands at the range. the 38 i have (Ruger SP101) is surprisingly meow kittens to shoot.

i'm a decent shot, and if i ever started carrying i would go to the range a LOT more. i'm not trying to have something i'm not safe with.

should be about the same as .38 or 9mm. I normally order cheap stuff from cheaper than dirt for the range and have a little better stuff for having it loaded. I'll empty the clip I've been carrying around just to get some fresh rounds in there and then reload with cheap stuff. load it back up with hollows before I leave.
Now my Deagle kinda sucks to shoot. NOT cheap. But it's fun as hell

Move to Oregon? It's like the opposite of California. I had my props guy get his tec-9 confiscated on a movie set in California, but this was the table at a photoshoot from a few weeks ago.

The only true props where the two dumb cannons in the bottom left corner...

oof. LOOT.

nah. i love where i live. and i'll be amazed if CCW's become an attainable thing, but it actually looks like it's going that way.

DAMN Cali has some stupid fucking laws about guns.

wife and I tried out a bunch, She has small hands and I had a bum thumb due to jujitsu mishap, that was one we could both work all the controls, safety, slide release easily and was comfortable for both of us. It was going to be hers but she never carried it so I sort of appropriated it. I had been rolling with an XD sub but this is way nicer to have on you. really like having a cell phone in your pocket.
Hope it works out for you man.
See if you have any ranges where you can rent one before you buy it. Tacoma has a decent indoor range Downtown that has a fairly large variety of stuff. Most popular models are available. Nice to be able to try before you buy.

Have fun and be safe Behnders :thumb:

Dunno, I just googled "Deckard's pistol".
But I read one time that some guy did pilfer parts off of the guns used to make the film one and then machined the remainder into a usable gun.

True dat.
I dunno if you've played OG Fallout, but, they have a version of Deckard's gun, called "that gun" and it is a fucking hand cannon. Best handgun in the game.
Sorry to hijack your thread Behnders. I know dick about real guns.
I only dropped in to check it out cause I am fascinated when you Americans talk guns.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but it is just such an alien concept to us.
Fascinating.

Yah me too,
Especially being a young dude, I have never even seen a gun in real life
