So, I have a confession...I went all lycra! I got into long rides, wearing lycra top to toe...my wife was horrified. Then after a 120km ride at the beginning of January i broke my hubs and my wheels were fucked. I had to sell my Dodici fixie to fund getting wheels built up. But as a result I was of action for about 3 weeks...and 3 weeks of thinking and reflecting. At some point during that time it hit me how i had changed and how the lycra thing and all the cycling clubs etc was just not my thing. By the time i got my new wheels I got back to being me, and ditched the lycra tops...still wear bibs because they are fucking comfortable, but i wear my metal t-shirts on a daily basis and enjoying just extending my commute to work by another 10km.
I really would like to get back to a fixed bike, but its just not practical and my knees just can't take the punishment in my 40's...
anyway, new pic of the bike with bombproof wheels
and yes...i shaved my legs...
Just bought some lycra pants and looking and road bikes....
I commute too, and use to use Chrome backpack...but now days, i leave most my clothes at work and have a chrome hipbag where i put my essentials and a small saddle back that goes under my saddle where i put undies and socks. riding without a backpack has been a revelation!!

what did you get?
Bowman Palace in the green on green color. Probably still another 1-2 months before it gets delivered which is anxiety inducing at the start of spring here. https://bowman-cycles.com/product/palace-r/
Was thinking of getting a 80s or 90s De Rosa or Merckx also but stuff in nice shape was out of my price range. Girlfriend is really into steel and might be slightly miffed with the aluminum bike coming into the family.
Those bowman look really awesome. Awesome prices from what I can see.
One of the nicest frames I ever had was a steel (carbon rear fork) Serotta CDA I bought complete off craigslist for 300 bucks. I did the 80s steel thing for a while and built up a SL Ciocc frame which was...interesting. Speed wobbles above 50mph. Scary as fuck.
Aluminum frames feel super amazing when putting down good power up climbs because of how stiff they are. I LOVE aluminum frames.
I'm so excited . Got it today. Still about a month or two out before I can afford rest of the components but girlfriend surprised me with a seatpost and it generally hints at the vibe of how I'm building it up.
