Univalve asked for more pics :D I had to dig through some old photos and boot up an old laptop to find these.

Daily driver (although I ride a winter bike in winter): old pic, bullhorns (which I prefer, actually)

Set up for rain:

With track drops:

Here's my Bridgestone CB-1, which is a nice bike, but it didn't fit me:

I gave it to a (shorter) coworker to use as a commuter bike.

Here's the Bridgestone pulling a bunch of plants for the garden home:

Terrible cameraphone pic of my commuting gear:

And lastly, my sweet fixed-gear lawn mower

More importantly, it's the kinda bike you ride back from the pub.

Uni your bike is sexy.

I need to get a bike. I'm moving into a more urban community in a month and riding everywhere is very desirable. The idea of a single speed is very appealing to me for low maintenance / cost, but would anyone try to sway me into getting something like a 5/10 speed? I'd like to hear some arguments. I don't think I'd be riding hills or trails on a consistent basis but it might happen.

Also, what do you guys do differently for your winter bikes aside from the tires?

EDIT: the idea of a fixed gear kind of scares the crap out of me, but these is on my local CL:

Quit riding, it's fuckin' cold :erm:

As far as fixed gear goes, I wouldn't be too scurr'd as long as there's a brake, like in the links you posted.
I think brakeless ones are a bad idea.
