Discworld is a lot to get into. even if you can knock 'em off pretty quick. And they get a bit redundant after a while.

I particularly recommend the Vimes/City watch and the Rincewind/Unseen University streams above the others, the former especially if you dig police procedurals.

Discworld is always great but I'm biased and nostalgic because it's my childhood.

I think they're all worth reading (if you like the general idea) but wouldn't recommend sitting down to read them all in one go!! Having read them the year they came out since I was old enough till he died, it was a much nicer pace than trying to consistently read nothing but Discworld.

Definitely agree the City Watch and UU books are particularly good. Along with the Witches and some standalones that are fantastic (e.g. Small Gods).

There's no real requirement to read most of the books in order. But reading all of the watch/UU (rincewind)/witch books in their internal orders (which are all just chronological with publishing date thankfully) makes sense.

Read the bible heathens.

Nah JK, but I started another of the Meg books. Quick read where people get eaten by a giant shark, with no regard for actual science.. mmm mmm

I actually have been. I have been going super slow. It's been a long, long time since I picked up a Bible, but I'm enjoying it.

I'm agnostic so it would be primarily a work of fiction.

I got another copy of Dune because I haven't read that since I was like 15

Anyone read Book of the New Sun? Is that a good scifi book to read?

Book of the new sun:

I've tried several times. That prologue or first chapter just doesn't mesh with me. I need to force past it at some point and see if it is as good I've been told. That beginning is rough

RIP Gene Wolf. :zen:
I have read things by him that I loved, but I've quit Shadow at least half a dozen times, a couple after getting 100 pp in.... :idk: I will probs try again. I also needed numerous re-starts to get into Titus Groan, and that series eventually became my favorite....

My friend turned me on to a theorist named Mark Fisher, read some, it's interesting stuff. Than I read the full blown, batshit insanity of his mentor, Nick Land, it's like if Ayn Rand and HR Giger had a kid, and they hired David Duke to babysit him and all he read was Thomas Ligotti stories. This is heinous fuckery most foul.

I love Malazan. Fucking love me so many characters. Quick Ben, Kalam, Whiskeyjack. Fiddler. Basically any fucking Bridgeburner.
Also, Tehol and Bugg. GD.

I've been wanting to do that for a long time now. That was one of my favourites when I was younger.

I was given a gift card to a local bookstore. So I picked up Last Days of New Paris and Seveneves. Just a couple more to add to my forever growing stack of books on my bedside table

I loved Seveneves! Not a perfect book but well worth a read

I've read A Cat, a Man and Two Women, and Lord of Light this week.

Both were fantastic! Lord of Light is one of the most unique science fiction books I've ever read and I'll definitely go back and read it again at some point.
