So I'm thinking of starting a blog on effects pedals...

I am interested in starting a blog on effects pedals much like the tech sites http://www.engadget.com and http://www.gizmodo.com but for news on effects pedals.

I'd like to feature many of the builders' on this sites work and review and demo as many pedals as possible.

I'd also like to include editorial content from insightful ILF members and builders and get news on upcoming builds.

Also host giveaways and contests for best pedalboard, best original music, etc.


So I guess the big question is, what does ILF think of this? Is it a good idea? Any additions or new things I could implement?

Well I wasn't planning to be the only one

Nothing wrong with a little competition. I would probably try to have multiple posts per day rather than a few per month. Also I'd focus less on famous pedalboards and more on the pedalboards of my readers along with stockpiling a large review and demo database.

I do realize however that effects blogs aren't as popular as tech blogs and competition will reduce readership but creating choices is always good.

More options for gear heads like the majority of ILFer's are isn't a bad thing.

I'm mainly doing this to get a feeler for how it would be received by my intended audience which would be people like all of you.

If i find the resources to start this thing I'll be pm'ing anyone interested in writing for it, I want it to be more a culmination of the communities thoughts than mine.

Also I feel like I should introduce myself to everyone: I'm Mike, a 19 year old college student at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and I'm very interested in business and entrepreneurship. I'm not a great guitar player but I love to play and experiment with tone and effects and since I can never seem to find a band to play with I would like to be involved with gear and music somehow

Yeah I felt my post in reply to yours seemed to misrepresent my feelings. I am appreciative of you making me aware of other competition and a similar site. I enjoy the advice as it's the whole community that decides whether this site works or fails

It seems you would be more of an editor of sorts. The Arianna Huffington of the effects world if you will.

Bonus: You'll probably end up with a myriad of free gear.

That being said I would love to contribute.

I'd like to consider myself more of a community organizer, I'd like to coordinate a lot of cool things on the site, using the views of a wide range of guitar, bass, synth, etc. players.

Obviously I would contribute my own thoughts but there are some things I'm less qualified to write about like building pedals, modding them, etc.

Actually I would like to get a list of potential contributors to reference, so if you'd like to, just send me a pm.

About the free gear, I don't how much I'd get to keep but as long as I get some time to play with cool effects and tell the world about it, I'm down
