Rewiring my pee pee bass

Postby friendship » Fri Apr 29, 2016 9:43 am

I have an old Squier Affinity P-Bass I use all the time, but the output jack is pretty fucked up; I cleaned the connections and tightened everything up but it's still struggling to make a connection. So I was thinking I would resolder the joints, but while I'm in there maybe I should just totally redo the wiring. I've soldered pickups but never have done wiring from scratch. I also don't really know anything about bass pickups. Should I get like a Quarter Pounder and a basic wiring kit from Stew Mac, or is there some better and doper shit I should be thinking about?

QP is loudest. Or get a musicman humbucker & throw it in there. Requires more work but doper shit.
If your pots aren't fried ok if they suck replace both it's affordable. Don't spend money on capacitor as long as it's .047 ok drop caps don't make no difference it's just a pass filter ask the dude who made alembic.

Nice, thank you. I might copper shield it while I'm at it.

That's a popular thing to do I'm just not sure it helps me. It can't touch any exposed wiring.

Should mention 250k pots are suited for bass. 500k for guitar.

Bill Lawrence also a popular pickup but from my experience qp, Matt Freeman, Chris Aiken, are 3 loudest P pickup sets (if not the exact same thing--I wouldn't be surprised.

Take all that extra stuff out. Pickup -> Jack is all you need

Yes! That's a good option on Esquiers too.
I actually use the tone knob on bass.

Hmm yeah might be tricky avoiding the wiring touching copper in a P-bass. As for the other stuff, I too use the tone knob and whatnot, so I gotta keep that in.

Don't Gary Willis doesn't have knobs? That would be freaky--p bass no knobs or pickguard just flat. Pickups and bridge. I like the idea.

Did you get quarter pounders ?

Not yet, I'm scouting for used dealz and bargainz because I'm a cheapskate.

Also look for Aiken or Freeman pickups. I strongly believe they're the same thang. I'm repeating myself. For that matter you just need a high output pickup if you're not prude to off brands.
Thinking about no knobs straight to jack.
