Neck is in!

Roasted maple, steel frets, reverse headstock, sperzel tuners, nice black nut. I am stoked and it smells awesome.
Having a really hard time deciding whether the neck will really go onto this project or my Jazzmaster, I did a dry fit on the jazzmaster tonight and it was just as awesome on that too...

If I put this mooncaster neck on the Jazzmaster it wouuuld relieve some weight, that body is SO heavy

I swear the Jazzmaster weighs about 13-15 pounds with the Bastin neck on. That ash body is serious

That is one sexy head stock. Never tried a reverse head stock, how different do they actually feel?

Only real difference is when you go to tune. Farthest back becomes the low E and it's all backwards. Took a little while to get used to when I had the Bass Vi Telecaster. The cool thing about these Sperzels is that they are graduated in height so I don't need string trees

I've heard the argument that it makes the top strings a bit slinkier versus the bottom, kinda' like the "more string behind the bridge" thing with JMs, jags, and etc. I never really noticed a difference, but I'm also not good enough a player to notice.

Had a reverse headstock Jackson Dinky, entry level model, that i had rehabbed for a friend but he said I could keep it after I got it working again. Never noticed less tension on the bass strings. I have noticed that on a JM/Jag though.

13 pounds though? Jeezus. I think neither of my LP tops 8lbs.

Even this new Buzzo is around 9.

Fortunately even with the Bastin neck on the skullcaster I am thinking it will weigh only about 8 pounds. Chris who made the body said that it was around 7 with a Bastin neck and no electronics. It's going to feel like a feather!

I think it's one of those 'in theory' things. Like, the math checks out but the difference is less than the margin of human error. YMMV, of course.

Well I put the mooncaster neck on my Jazzmaster last night, instead. Also rewired it while I had it apart, and shielded the pickguard which still seems like it did nothing in terms of hum. Anyways, gotta put the screws back in the pickguard and string it up and I'll post that guy. Putting flats on it, so it will be my mellow wooden guitar to contrast my bright aluminum/steel guitars!
