Lace Bassbar wiring

Postby DieselDentist » Sat Nov 22, 2014 7:21 pm

Hoping someone in here knows so I can get this bass up and running again. I'm using two of the Lace Bassbar pickups. The wiring diagram http://www.lacemusic.com/pdf/12.pdf shows 3 wires: Orange/Green/White. Pretty straight forward right? Well, what do I do with the 4th White with Black Stripe wire? I've got an email out to Lace but it usually takes them 2-3 business days before Reggie responds.

Thanks in advance!

Might have to do with phase reversal or a coil tap on a switch. Not sure how to wire it up though. Sorry dude.

Well I wired and ignored the white/blk. One pickup worked, the other didn't. Wired what I thought should work with 1 volume 1 tone per pickup, plus a master volume. Found that the hot wire and the white/blk on the non working pickup were reversed. Wrong colors. So I adjusted accordingly, each pickup by itself works fine. But when they are both on, they get quiet like they are canceling each other out.

Email and phone call not yet returned. I bet they're out for the holiday. So angry right now. I tried soldering like they show for a jazz bass: vol/vol/master tone. Still same issue volume wise when both on.

Look at this: http://www.lacemusic.com/pdf/13.pdf

Looks like you can use the white wire to split the pickup and use it as a single coil.

Normal Mode - ORANGE is HOT
WHITE w/ BLACK STRIPE to GROUND
GREEN to GROUND
WHITE - No Connection.

Split Mode changes the GROUND
from WHITE w/BLACK STRIPE to
GROUND, to WHITE to GROUND

Got that diagram too. Tried swapping white for white/black and got no sound. Checking resistances I found one pickup seems to have the orange and the white/blk wire switched. Soldered accordingly and I have sound from both pickups. But when both volumes are up the sound gets thin and quiet like they are cancelling each other out.

Laces diagram only shows a single pickup install. I must have something weird for two. I just duplicated the vol/tone circuit and had the two meet at the input jack.

Reggie says the white with black is for normal grounding. Split to a single coil by switching to white ground.

Each of mine have one dead coil. Sigh. Explains all but my volume issue.

If they don't work right, return them.

Yep, they've been returned through Lace. I wonder if the retailer I got them from accidently sold me returns. Seems weird they'd both be bad. Excited to get the new ones direct from the OEM though! Super nice to deal with.
