Strat / TB500 build

Postby wildebelor » Mon Jul 28, 2014 9:46 am

So…. This is a pretty strange idea, but that's usually how my ideas go!

Basically I was looking at the EGC500/TB500s and it clicked that I could do the following:
cut a pickguard to an almost identical shape as the TB500 which would hide the stupid strat input jack
load it with p90s
hardtail (maybe with a pickup behind the bridge)
1 tone / 1 volume with 3 way selector

Whilst I'm in there, I'll be shielding everything blah blah blah

All I need to do is come up with the aesthetics….

Help me!

These are some variations…. leaning towards the middle one.
At the same time, I've ordered some crazy orange sparkle from krylon...

Yeah I dig the middle one too. That pickguard would be pretty awesome.
Also, :poke: there is a TB neck on Ebay for $1200US, which is a pretty large chunk of change buuuut it could get you even closer
Regardless if it has an aluminum neck or not it will still rule. P90's in strats are awesome.

I just feel it's super plain to do that - either way, I'll make the final decision when I strip the body.
If it has a nice figure (somewhat unlikely), then I'll stain it!
If it's turd - time to polish it!

Yeah. I've never fully stripped a guitar before, and I'm not sure that I ever want to haha. I do think black on black would look rad, and get that Albini thing going on too!

I'm having a bolt-on aluminium neck built for me at the moment which will actually fit this pocket perfectly!

Paint stripper makes quick work! It's just really the prep that makes me lose my mind.

Dude.

Dude.

Orange sparkle with black pickguard. That would be so freaking good. And do the headstock in orange too. If you've got time you should mock it up - there's a chance it may even look tasteful.

Goroth - this looks ugly as hell!
Plus, today when testing the sparkle on a pedal, the can exploded on me.
Not happy! Glitter everywhere!

Made some progress today -

Drew up the pick guard template for real!

very stoked on that.
The pickguard will be black 3-ply, so I can go with a black body incase the wood underneath the hideous donor body sucks.
Ordered everything, just waiting for it to arrive now. :excellent:
