Yeah, I gave those a thought but the cost and I worried about quality.. it was either the banjo tuners or I would have had to plug all the holes and re fit for new pegs.. the old pegs were very crude, worn and the holes very enlarged...

mine aren't too too bad - yet - just need some peg dope, really - but I like the idea of just not having to think about it....

well, cheers on a happy ending :thumb: :)*

i was looking at tuners the other day, idly thinking that perhaps i could put banjo tuners with a sane gear ratio on a potential Firebird; you can get planetary-geared 10:1 banjo tuners, but they're over $200 a set (i.e. 4). go talk to Béla Fleck and leave me out of this.

I'd rather talk to his rather awesome wife, Abigail Washburn

 haha - everything perfectly licit, no shenanigans involved - while I admire his technique and career, I am not a huge fan of his music.
Ms. W, on the other hand, has got the musical "it" that piques my curiosity....

Have this thing pretty much done. Some minor tweaking to do. Actually quite surprised how much influence the aluminum has on the sound, there is definitely a characteristic to the sound that seems quite different than wood. I have it with flat wounds and P90s and the sound is very, very piano like...high-fi sounding, very articulate...it literally sounds metallic.

thanks for the kind words-

here is the bass I've started

Dovetailing the two parts, need to figure out how to radius the end of the male dovetail so it slots tighter.

Depends what machines and bits you have to hand of course but milling it from the top or sides is the most obvious thing that comes to my mind.

Nothing quite so impressive as this but today I rewired my Les Paul. Stripped out the PCB and wired it with two volumes, master tone (lpf) and master "bass contour" (hpf). This wiring is a lot more fun to me plus it was a fun little afternoon project reverse engineering the wiring from the original PCB setup and starting from scratch.

It's quite funny googling about people rewiring PCB gibsons because there's so much woowoo about it sounding different. But this one actually does sound better because I changed it quite a lot
