One crazy thing this guy does is use a piece of string attached to what must be similar to a tape measure mechanism to rub against the guitar strings for a bowing effect.

high quality footage here, from TV show:

another one with the bowing thing:

I don't think I have ever even held a guitar with a scalloped neck, but there are a lot of videos from Vietnam that show them to be the norm there, which makes sense, considering the approaches used in their traditional music.

It's easy to do yourself if you have a junk guitar laying around...

Now I'm trying to decide whether I should defret my old guitar or drastically scallop it instead... haha

if i had to bet money, i would bet that the wire drawback system in the guitar that he bows the metal string with is from an old weed whacker. over here the machines are scrapped and used to make other custom machines for farming, everyday life, etc. from weed whacker parts. people get really creative with their junk here and very little goes to waste or its just used to make custom weed whacker machines again out of whatever is left lying around after. the draw string part from a high power large metal bladed weed whacker would be my high money bet. but i can only speak for thailand and what we would use here on no money budget.
