UPDATE: took advantage of some bargains and deals and ordered a Fender Player Precision in polar white with a maple neck. What color pickguard should I slap on there?

I've had a Squier p-bass since like 2000 A.D. It's been through the fucking wringer, every part of it is worn out, and it deserves retirement.

My first thought is to just get another cheap p-bass? I've never felt like it was lacking, but maybe I'm missing out on something? It's just for home recording use, so I'd like a nice-sounding pickup, good action, and stable tuning.

2000 A.D., huh?

If you like the versatility of a P-Bass, stick with it. :idk:

I'd at least encourage you to go out and play other stuff just to get a feel for other stuff. :poke:

Yeah owning multiple p basses is legit.

I'd look at squier VM/ CVs if I were you :idk:

you can probably find a perfectly useable old Fender MIM P-Bass for less than $450.

Then it's settled! I will be bassing with

PRECISION

I'll play some stuff at the local Guitar Center too just in case there is something doper.

i reckon the world would look much the same if there were no basses except the precision. does it all imo [ymmv, etc.]

That's because in the end the function of a bass is what counts and why they are a more useful instrument than a guitar.

If you're in the market for a P-bass then you could do a lot worse than looking for an Ibanez Blazer. Mine has consistently blown any Fender I've encountered and they can be had for cheap. Like, Squier levels of cheap for made in Japan quality.

That's a good idea. My ex had a similar Ibanez--it might have been a Roadstar, I can't recall exactly--and it was a fantastic bass. I'll add it to my vision board.

yeah japanese stuff is usually pretty awesome. I personally just acquired an MIM Pbass and it's pretty good. I'm also waiting for an MIJ early 70s Greco EB3 copy.
You should definitely look for these greco, ibanez, jolana, tokai, burny copy in my opinion. They are really cool, you can find Pbass, Jazzbass, Rickenbacker 4003, flying V, EB3, ripper, and probably alot more copies out there.
You might be different but I personally really like the feeling of having a vintage instrument that is made in the US or Japan for example over a new chinese/korean squier/epiphone one.. nothing against them, they are good instrument, but to me they don't have that personality/history/something.

That doesn't seem like an unreasonable price given that it seems to be in pretty good condition. Actually, considering I paid £200 for my beat up blazer about 10 years ago that could be a steal,
