Amazes me that we don't have a lapsteel thread after all of these years.
I made both of these lapsteels out of steel and aluminum this summer to use at the center of a project, they are both bowed.
They have two goldfoil pickups in them, with stereo outputs, so whichever side is not the active picking side has harmonics sent to a second amp. It's neat.
The Bass lapsteel has wound strings for more string noises, and is tuned DAda. The Guitar lapsteel has flats and is tuned DAdgad.

I managed to eventually get one of these (not my actual photo, although I can take some when the light's better):

ohhhh that's awesome. Is it heavy?

It's pretty heavy. Solid chunk of aluminum (& lucite). Sounds great. Pickup's nice sounding too!

Amazing. I like those tuners

I do too. Unforunately, those weren't the ones that came on mine.
The ones on mine were also shot. So, I had 'em replaced with Klusons.
Just noticed a bass lap steel track on your bandcamp, gonna listen:

Yeah essentially
Also OGNOY that Duesenburg system seems super killer

The palm pedal thing is really cool, are they expensive?
I used to have a Sho-Bud pedal steel and Gibson Skylark lap but never had the patience to actually learn how to play them outside of noodling. That palm pedal seems like its a good way to get a lot of the sound without the insanity of a real pedal steel.

I wouldn't call them "cheap" but they're absolutely nothing compared to the cost of a pedal steel so a good option if you want the sound.
200 euros or something?

It's great, but I need to practice way more with it. Haven't really out it to real use yet.
It costs about 200€ and I don't that's that bad.
Especially compared to the price of a pedalsteel as Kate said.
