pretty sure i'm gonna go with the fenders. they're already stupid cheap and i can get them for cheaper with my industry discount. it also feels right keeping the guitar all fender. though after using it for a few weeks i'm starting to notice the fender neck hurts my hand. i don't usually play fender guitars, just basses.

Hey im trying to decide on a new neck pickup for my blacktop jazzmaster so im gonna keep this thread rolling. Here's my situation:
-its the weird one with a bridge humbucker and a regular JM neck pickup
-im putting a duncan black winter in the bridge and adding a coil split on a push pull pot
-I want a reverse wound / polarity neck pickup so i can be hum canceling in the middle position when my bridge pickup is split
-I wanna keep it cheap so either of the duncan antiquity models or the fenders that folks reccomended in this thread are perfect.
But... WHICH. ONE. DO. I. BUY?
Any advice would be much appreciated :)*

I have the CP jazzy and it's my babe. I kept the neck pickup (it's a p90 btw) and put a super hot p90 in the bridge. So mine probably doesn't sound like a jazzmaster but it works really well for the noisy rock stuff I'm doing.

That's probably not what you're looking to do with it though.

Edit: oops. I was trying to reply to waltydoggy

Edit 2: check out Buddha pickups on reverb. That's who I got my bridge pickup from. He'll basically make you whatever you want and his prices are super reasonable.

that's a toughie. even as a guitar tech i just don't know enough about pickups. that's why i always ask you guys when i mod my pickups lol.

interesting the pickups in the CP jazzy are P-90s? or at least P-90esq? I might leave them in for a minute longer until i get some extra cash to spend then. I don't have any p-90 guitars right now and my funds are a bit tied up rn. as for what i use the jazzy for, whatever i feel like. i did gig it a few times with pity party and it fit our sound really well.

I would still replace the bridge pickup. It felt like the neck was way higher output on mine, and I like it to be the opposite

i adjusted the pickups to be balanced then matched the radius of the pole pieces to the string radius for optimal output from each string.

I’ve got a set of the noiseless Fralins in my JM and they sound fantastic.

I haven't played anything that is not stock (62, CP, VM, CIJ and 65), Classic Player are my favorites but not very JM.

And I recently swapped the stock ones in my CIJ for the PV65:

Sure there's a difference, does it worth the extra $100? Probably not.

I have lollars in three JMs. My fave.
The Original ones in the Squier Jmascis are fine top. Here i changed the neck PU to a DiMarzio Eric Johnson HB: Love that combination!

I have a set of these as well—the JM voiced ones, not the P90 version. They definitely don't sound like a normal JM PU, but they're in the ballpark and having quiet pickups that you can use independently is great. They sound a bit more compressed/choked compared to the normal single coils.

I have a couple of old JMs with black bobbin pickups, and from what I can tell the SD Antiquity I is a really close match to that sound.
