Univox P Bass ?

I've been thinking about getting a cheap bass for a little while, but I don't really have much money to spend so the options are very limited. I came across a guy who sells a 75' Univox P bass for $150.
Seems like a good deal to me, and since I couldn't really afford a more expensive bass it's really tempting, but the picture I saw is so blurry that I can't even see the headstock logo or strap button.. The bass is sunburst with a white pickguard (which I can't find any on internet, all univox sunburst p-bass seem to have a tort pickguard ... maybe somebody changed it along the way ? :idk: ). It also isn't the model with the cool fender tuners copy, the ones on it seems cheaper but it seems like the original tuners (they used these after the fender copy) and no thumb rest. I'm supposed to meet the guy Friday morning someplace but won't be able to plug it..

Anyway.. anyone has experience with univox bass ? Any advice ? Good deal ?

Here's the shitty picture

Well nevermind I got it :) would benefit a setup and missing upper strap button (and it seems like the screw is jammed in there  )
But otherwise it plays pretty good I'll post pictures in the what's in the post thread :)

Some of that 70's Univox stuff is really good. I have a Ripper (3 x humbucker Strat copy) that rules super hard. Hope you enjoy it!

It's pretty good, would need a setup but neck feels good and electronics work. I've spent all day on internet trying to find some info on these since it's got a non-familiar Univox logo. I've removed the neck and there's nothing, no serial, no year ... there's no serial number on this bass ! The neckplate only says ''Made in Japan''. I've found out that this version seems to be mostly if not only found in Canada. I thought it may be a Univox knockoff but apparently they might be late 70s close to the end of matsumoku production Canadian market batch...

Except the bass in these pictures (on the link above) isn't like mine. Same script but different script color, one pickup, no neck pocket hole.... etc.
I've found a Vintage Univox group on facebook and some Canadian fellows have the exact same model that I have and they believe what I just said above (late canadian run) ..
Also tuners seems to be from 60s-70s japan... They where on Ibanez, greco , etc ...

It's a fucking puzzle

edit: FWIW I just saw a post on strat-talk (got there from google) and a guy (Canadian) posted a univox strat copy with the same cursive logo mine have and says he bought it used in 81 and people seems to agree on that canadian market thing just before the end of matsumoku..

I had a Hi-Flier guitar for a while that was a tremendous amount of fun to play. The neck was amazing...

I have a 1971 Univox short scale Hi-Flier bass and its my main instrument despite its age. My friend of 30 years had (still has) a Univox P-bass with a carved eagle inlay over the whole body. When I was 13 my mind was blown and I had to play bass.

I will play both sides of this and say the Univoxes are not "good" necessarily, but they are always awesome.
