or you could accessorize it with a multi-colored satin cape like the cat in Acid Mothers Temple.

Here's my (Romanian-made) Irish Bouzouki. Very nice and shockingly inexpensive. Haven't tried the EQ yet ...

i've been looking at Portuguese-style mandolins--the ones with the same kind of teardrop shape and flat top/back--and should have realized that the Romanians that make the hella-cheap ones would make bouzoukis too. that would be perfect to take on my road trip. hmmmmmm....can you play shoegaze on it?

I don’t see why not but its pickup is a piezo so you may be limited with distortions. Everything else should sound fine. It’s a Hora btw. And I like the deeper/bassist sound of the IB vs mandolin or octave mandolin.

i was sort of joking about the shoegaze thing, though i suppose that with the right tuning it'd work. the longer string length makes it thwaaaaaaaaaaaaang more than a mandolin.

so i think i'm gonna pick one of these up. i found a Hora model with finish/appointments that i prefer to the blonde one:

without the low-rent electronics. i prefer a microphone in front of an acoustic instrument, and if i need to electrify Luna (of all companies!) makes or made a solidbody bouzouki with two Firebird-style pickups that looks like an absolute weapon:

But it looks cool ... you may want to consider buying an attachable piezo and run it into an acoustimax.

if the soundhole were larger i would use the Seymour Duncan Acoustic Tube, which is what Ira from Yo La Tengo uses on his acoustic guitar. a piezo is possible, maybe something like those old Barcus-Berry surface-mount transducers that mounted with double-sided foam tape. the other thing about the stock pickup/pre is that i really dislike it when they cut a hole in the side of a defenseless acoustic instrument for the control panel.

Look above - I have one in spruce. Very nice sound. I would like to make a song with the Dulcimer, electric bass, and Cumbus saz for a non-six string jam.

Sounds like a great jam!

Mine is the Mahogany one, currently tuned DAD. It is actually super fun to play and it's pretty great quality too

i have never, ever seen anyone playing a dulcimer in guitar position before...they're usually played sitting flat on your lap.

Technically, these are diatonic instruments "inspired" by a duclimer. They have weird fret spacing, which I assume produces notes similar to what you would find on a dulcimer.

I'm still very surprised by how good they sound and feel.

yeah, the fret spacing is pivotal.
